When it’s winter, you do anything to stay warm: layers upon layers of clothes, cranking up the heater and downing a nice, steaming drink that heats up your whole body. Here are eight hot beverages that will keep you warm this winter!<\/p>\n

1. Gluhwein<\/h2>\n

Gluhwein is the German variation of mulled wine, and is typically made during the Christmas period and is a traditional feature of the Christmas markets in Germany. The combination of spices such as cinnamon, cloves, and star anise gives the drink some extra depth, while the orange lends some of its zesty flavour. One sip of this will definitely warm your belly!<\/p>\n

2. Hot Chocolate<\/h2>\n

A classic amongst hot beverages, hot chocolate is another drink that warms you during winter. The great thing about hot chocolate is that you can add something extra to the drink if you want a little bit of a kick: a dash of peppermint oil, some chili, or even some cinnamon. However, nothing beats topping your hot chocolate the good ole’ fashioned way: whipped cream and marshmallows.<\/p>\n

3. Chai Latte\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Chai Latte is a spiced tea drink that originated in India and will definitely keep you warm during winter. The spices in the tea – ground nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise, cardamon, and cloves – gives the drink a burst of flavour that complements well with the sweetness of the whipped cream. One sip of this will have you thinking that you’re walking on the streets of India.<\/p>\n

4. Hot Apple Cider<\/h2>\n

In addition to gluhwein, hot apple cider is another hot beverage enjoyed during the Christmas period and is also popular in autumn. The cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and black peppercorns gives the drink some added depth and spice, which is beautifully contrasted with the zesty orange. If you’re feeling a bit cheeky, you can add some rum or bourbon to the drink as well!<\/p>\n

5. Hot Toddy<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Though hot beverages can be rich and overly sweet, the hot toddy is an exception. Light and refreshing, this classic cocktail is made from four simple ingredients: hot water, lemon, whiskey, and honey. Moreover, it has been said that the hot toddy can help reduce cold symptoms, but should be consumed in moderation due to the alcohol.<\/p>\n

6. Black Tea With Honey And Lemon<\/h2>\n

Sometimes it’s best to stick to the classics, and black tea with honey and lemon takes the cake. A combination of sweet and zesty, this drink soothes sore throats and is perfect for when you’re battling a cold during those winter months. For an extra kick, you can add some grated ginger to the tea as well, which helps reduce the sniffles.<\/p>\n

7. Warm Milk<\/h2>\n

Another great classic hot beverage and one that brings me back to my childhood is warm milk. Besides being incredibly calming and soothing, warm milk also helps you fall asleep. Moreover, you can also liven up this drink by adding some nutmeg, cinnamon or vanilla.<\/p>\n

When you think of Harry Potter – besides the characters and the places – you think of butterbeer, the popular drink that Hogwarts students love. And now you can make your very own butterbeer!
