If you haven’t recently taken residence under a rock, it’s highly likely that you’ve heard of a film called Captain Marvel. <\/em>Although its star, Brie Larson, has been on the map for a long time – you might recognise her as Envy in Scott Pilgrim<\/em>, or as ‘Ma’ in the award-winning\u00a0Room\u00a0<\/em>– as an integral part of the Marvel franchise, the feel-good Captain Marvel\u00a0<\/em>has photon-blasted its superhero to a whole new level of stardom.<\/p>\n

Despite reaching stratosphere levels of fame, Brie hasn’t let it get to her, as her down-to-earth and hilarious personality shines brighter than Carol Danvers’ superpower energy.<\/p>\n

Who wouldn’t want to be friends with her? Here are 8 times that Brie Larson still proved herself to be the most relatable person ever.<\/p>\n

1. That one time she accessorised her pyjamas with a Burger King crown.<\/h2>\n

Even one of the strongest superheroes in the MCU needs to have a bit of downtime. How better to treat yourself than to indulge in unhealthy fast food and slum it in your pyjamas?<\/p>\n

Taking it to the streets of LA is another level of commitment, and for that I applaud Brie. She is truly one of us.<\/p>\n

2. When her character, Kit, verbalised how we all feel about the future.<\/h2>\n

Entering the world of adulthood is daunting at best, and terrifying at worst. We all want to get ahead and succeed in life – or at least look<\/em> like we’re doing okay – so verbalising that fear of the future can be tricky.<\/p>\n

Luckily, Brie Larson has swooped in during this time of crisis with a super relatable and enjoyable character in her self-directed film,\u00a0Unicorn Store<\/em>. Full of rainbows and realising self-worth, the film is bound to cheer you up any time you doubt yourself and your potential.<\/p>\n

3. When she spoke for all awkward girls in bathrooms at a night at the Met Gala.<\/h2>\n

Everyone’s been there. There’s always a group on a night out who refuse to leave the bathrooms before they’ve taken three million selfies, all at different angles. There’s no doubting the fact that you’ve ended up in the back of some of them, at your worst angle when you’re just trying to wash your hands.<\/p>\n

That awkward situation doesn’t take any prisoners, apparently, and Brie is one of them. Even though her setting was much more glamorous, the surprise of the situation is just the same!<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with InStyle,<\/a> Brie emphasised the importance of getting to relax from her hectic celebrity job. You’ll see that play out on her Instagram<\/a>, where recently she’s posted videos of her covering songs on her guitar, and laughing when she messes up. Not only does she embrace the snuggly hoodie life, but she’s got a great singing voice to boot. Did you know she also used to release music singles, way back in 2005?<\/a><\/p>\n

6. When she and her friends became the new trendsetters for girl group hangouts.<\/h2>\n

Not only is she a trailblazer in the film industry, but it seems Brie’s creativity doesn’t stop outside of her professional life. In an interview with Stylist<\/a>, she has clued in the rest of the world on this neat little idea to help you and your friends de-stress.<\/p>\n

‘This is one that I just started exploring, that my friends and I have been calling \u2018relaxing karaoke\u2019 which consists of going to the spa, getting super relaxed, find a karaoke place and going in your pajamas.’<\/p>\n

Sounds like the ultimate cozy night out!<\/p>\n

7. When she let out her inner nerd.<\/h2>\n

It’s good to see actors take a break from the glitzy, fashion-filled lifestyle of press junkets and photoshoots and embrace their inner selves. Brie has reminded us that, like all of us, she’s really a nerd at heart.<\/p>\n

8. That time she railed against criticism that Captain Marvel didn’t ‘smile enough’, and voiced the frustrations of women everywhere.<\/h2>\n

As the face of a female-empowering film in a genre typically dominated by men, Brie Larson has had to deal with more than her fair share of hate and criticism aimed at her and her movies. While\u00a0Captain Marvel\u00a0<\/em>has many moments for feminists to be happy about, there were many complaints, also, including the classic criticism that Captain Marvel ‘didn’t smile enough’. As if women didn’t hear this all over the world already.<\/p>\n

In response, Brie\u00a0 was quick to point out the inherent sexism and hypocrisy of the statement. If Captain Marvel had to smile, then why didn’t the other superheroes have to? She demonstrated this double standard with a series of Instagram pictures that imagined what her MCU colleagues would have looked like if they had had to bow to this ridiculous expectation.<\/p>\n

As an advocate for the Time’s Up Movement, Brie is no stranger to feminist activism, but by doing this, Brie made sure that everyone knew she has the backs of female film lovers everywhere. Even though we’re told, even now, to sit still and look pretty, it’s the influence of films like Captain Marvel\u00a0<\/em>that help to change things in the film industry. Knowing we have someone on our side like Brie is always a relief.<\/p>\n
