1. Dress appropriately<\/h2>\n

You want to dress to impress, but if they are taking you for a picnic in the park stilettos are not your best plan, all you\u2019re going to do is get stuck in the grass and ruin your best shoes.<\/p>\n

2. Offer to pay half<\/h2>\n

This isn\u2019t the forties, girls make our own money now and it is only fair we offer to pay our way. A lot of men have said that they find it attractive when women offer to pay, although many won\u2019t take you up on the offer.<\/p>\n

3. Don\u2019t expect too much<\/h2>\n

Don\u2019t go in with rom-com expectations, it\u2019s the first date, you will not be going for carriage rides or private planes. It\u2019s going to be awkward in a cheap restaurant with a guy who is just as nervous as you are. However, don\u2019t lower them too much, he should still compliment you, maybe even pull out your chair.<\/p>\n

4. Keep your phone on vibrate<\/h2>\n

You don\u2019t want your phone to take too much of your attention. The temptation to pick it up in awkward moments will be too much if you don\u2019t leave your phone in your bag. Only use it to answer calls that might be an emergency, or text your friend from the bathroom to create an emergency if needed.<\/p>\n

5. Drink<\/h2>\n

If you are over 18 and not driving have a drink to calm the nerves and give you the ability to relax and be more conversational. However careful not to get messy drunk, especially if you want to see your date again.<\/p>\n

6. Be yourself<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s too easy to stifle the real you when it comes to first dates, but it won\u2019t help later on in the relationship if you\u2019ve pretended to be someone you are not. It\u2019s not worth the heartbreak when you figure out that neither of you really have anything in common. This is the most important of all the\u00a0things to do on a first date.<\/p>\n

7. Don\u2019t worry about the “Third Date Rule”<\/h2>\n

If it\u2019s going well and you want to be intimate, go for it. I can guarantee, despite the fact you said you wouldn\u2019t do anything, you are planning to wear matching underwear so why waste them? do what you think feels right.<\/p>\n

8. Be on time<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s just common courtesy, don\u2019t leave them worrying that you are standing them up. If you are going to be late phone them at least ten minutes before you are supposed to be there.<\/p>\n

9. Be honest<\/h2>\n

Talk about what you want in a relationship, don\u2019t include them in your white wedding, five kid fantasy, but be open about what you hope for. Talk about your past, just make sure you don\u2019t focus on your arsehole ex for more than a five-minute conversation.<\/p>\n

10. Have an open mind<\/h2>\n

They might not be exactly what you were expecting but give them a chance. Don\u2019t close yourself off because you don\u2019t like their outfit or their laugh is a bit off. It might just be because they are nervous. There are lots of\u00a0things to do on a first date, but these are some key things you want to keep in mind.<\/p>\n

11. Listen<\/h2>\n

It might be the most boring conversation in the world but you could miss out on getting to know them if you tune out. You won\u2019t find any common ground if you don\u2019t listen.<\/p>\n

Get to know the person properly. Think of what you want to know before the date, it will help you avoid awkward conversation lulls and help you work out if you are really compatible<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t let them push your boundaries if they make you uncomfortable don\u2019t put up with it. You should let them know and if they still don\u2019t stop that behaviour you can just get up and leave.<\/p>\n

14. Ask for a second date<\/h2>\n

If you had fun don\u2019t be afraid to ask them out again, double texting and texting first aren\u2019t as taboo as you think you are. If it turns off a guy that you are so forward he isn\u2019t worth it.<\/p>\n

15. If it\u2019s bad, just leave<\/h2>\n

Neither of you should waste your precious time on something you know is going nowhere!<\/p>\n
