Spots are, quite frankly, the bane of my life. From tiny whiteheads to size-of-my-fist pimples, I’ve experienced the lot, not to mention a ton of skincare products claiming to clear them for good. The result? Good, bad and downright ugly. While some products are miracle workers, others are not-so-much. After years of trial and error, I’ve rounded up the best hacks for flawless skin. Here are tips on how to get rid of spots.<\/p>\n

1. Double Cleanse<\/h2>\n

You’ve washed you face once, so it’s clean, right? Nope, probably not. While the first cleanse removes surface layer grime (foundation, I’m looking at you), the second reaches deeper into the pores. Clear skin, here I come.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

2. Use spot cream before <\/em>moisturiser<\/h2>\n

For a more effective treatment, apply spot cream first. This allows it to be fully absorbed by the skin, without other products acting as barriers. Cool, eh?<\/p>\n

3. Choose your moisturiser wisely<\/h2>\n

Moisturisers come in all shapes and sizes, so make sure you use one that is suited to your skin type. If you tend to get oily, then opt for a lighter moisturiser, while those with drier skin should use richer products.<\/p>\n

4. Use a face mask<\/h2>\n

It’s time to get out the cucumber! There are plenty of uh-mazing masks out there which will have you looking like an alien in no time. I love the Body Shop’s Charcoal mask, which is full of spot-fighting ingredients.<\/p>\n

5. Know your buzzwords<\/h2>\n

Time to wise up on your chemistry. Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to whip out your old school textbooks, just that you familiarise yourself with the ingredients you’re putting on your face. Look for products that use hydraulic acid and salicylic acid: they’re miracle workers for blemished skin.<\/p>\n

6. Go makeup free<\/h2>\n

No wait! Hear me out. Allowing your skin some breathing time from pore-clogging foundations will work wonders for your face. Plus, spending less time getting ready means more time in bed…<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

7. DO. NOT. PICK.<\/h2>\n

However satisfying squeezing your pimples may be, leaving them well alone will help prevent scaring.<\/p>\n

8. De-stress<\/h2>\n

The last thing you need when you’re stressed is a breakout to add to the list, but sadly life can be a pain in the, erm, face. Yoga, reading, watching every episode of Friends back-to-back – do whatever helps you to relax and your skin will thank you for it.<\/p>\n

9. Water water water<\/h2>\n

It’s common knowledge that water is a skin saviour, so it’s surprising how often we miss out this crucial step.\u00a0 Try downing a glass before every meal and bring a bottle where ever you go. You can thank me later.<\/p>\n

10. Ditch the sugar<\/h2>\n

I hate to break it to you, but it’s time to dispense with the lunchtime chocolate bar. I’m not saying you have to cut out sugary snacks altogether, but swapping the mars bar for oily fish and anti-oxidant rich veggies (spinach is your new best friend) will help prevent those unwelcome breakouts.<\/p>\n
