6 Ways To Protect Your Hair From The Sun This Summer

To protect your hair from the sun can be difficult, but these 6 tips show you the easiest possible ways! You're welcome guys!

To protect your hair from harsh UV rays can be easier than you think. In fact, there are so many ways to do it that many beauty companies capitalise on saving our hair from that giant star in the sky. Here are our 6 favourite ways to protect your hair from the harsh summer sun.

1. Wear a Hat!

This may seem incredibly obvious, but one of the easiest ways to protect your hair during summer is by wearing a hat. Hats can be stylish, compact, and practical. A big, wide-brimmed hat is our favourite, particularly for the summer months. Try a straw hat for cute summer images and selfies on the beach. Straw hats also look super cute during spring! Wear with your swimsuit or a cute floral dress for the ultimate beach aesthetic.

Caps are the ultimate accessories for the 21stcentury. Choose a cap in a colour, style, or brand to match your outfit, personality or overall beach vide.

2. Use a Zinc Oxide Sunscreen

If a hat is not your preferred method to protect your hair and is going to crimp your style, try applying a zinc oxide paste onto the roots of your hair. Apply the cream anywhere you know the sun is sure to touch; areas of thinning, your part, and the tops of your ears!

When using a sunscreen remember to apply every two hours, avoid rubbing off with a towel, and re-apply after swimming or bathing.

3. Use Natural Oils

While they protect your hair, natural oils can shield the sun from your scalp, and the right oils also have physical SPF! Oils such as coconut, olive, and avocado are thick enough to protect the hair. Using an oil also ensures your hair is silking smooth, as natural oils are a great leave-in conditioner.

4. Pick a Hair Style

To cover as much of your scalp as possible a great way to protect your hair is to try putting your hair up in a bun! Top-knots are suitable for protecting your part, reducing the amount of your scalp that is visible to the sun. For anyone with short hair, make sure to spray a moisturising dry shampoo before venturing outside. Look for one with SPF, or one of the ingredients discussed above.

If you struggle with putting together a cute bun hairstyle, ponytails and half-dos can be perfect to cover the top of your scalp without leaving gaps.

5. Reverse the Effects

If the sun has already hit you, your hair may be dry, brittle, and damaged. Counteract the sun’s harm with a moisturising hair mask or by coating your hair in SPF. If you’re out of time, spray a leave-in conditioner onto your strands to moisturise on the go. Applying a small amount of your chosen natural oil to the ends or roots of your hair (if your hair is extremely dry) is also a great option to protect your hair further down the track.

6. Get Shady With It

Let’s get serious. Although there are many great products available to save your hair from the sun, the best way is to stay out of the sun altogether. Not only can the UV rays from the sun lead to skin damage and hair damage, but the sun can also age you significantly. Sun spots and melanoma can appear anywhere, even o spots that haven’t been hit by the sun, and are sometimes fatal.

Have fun, just be mindful of the impact that orb has on your health.
