10 Ways To Be A Tourist In Your Own City

You’ve lived in the capital city all your life and to you, it’s the same old boring city. However, you’ve realised that all the tourists who come and spend time in the city that you’ve live in seem to enjoy it a lot more than you do. Therefore, there has to be some way for you to get the enjoyment that they do from YOUR OWN city. Here are some ideas on how to be a tourist in your own city!

1. Maps/Brochures

Head into hotels within the city and pick up some brochures, forget what you think you know about your city. Apart from the well-known attractions there are probably still loads that you are unaware of and have yet to be informed.

2. Navigation

Walk, walk around. Don’t take the routes that you know. Remember! You’re a tourist, leisurely walks will allow you to explore and see things that you may not have taken in previously.

3. Camera

Take a camera with you everywhere and use it. Take pictures of landmarks and of yourself beside the landmark. With the selfie due to front cameras, you can get some great snaps.

4. History of the City

Head into museums and check out the history of the city that you’ve lived in, you may think you have it all covered but you’ve probably only scraped the surface. Cities usually come with a lot of heritage and what better place to find out more than in one of the museums built in it.

5. Friends

Travel with a group of friends and if you have friends who enjoy doing touristy things and showing people around then, why not get your friend to take you on a trip around the city?

6. Galleries

Galleries are a great way to get out and enjoy some artistic work within the city. With the business of the city, it’s a nice place to just take a step back and enjoy some tranquil views of brush strokes against a canvas.

7. Open Tour Buses

Another great way to be a tourist in your own city is by bus. As someone who has lived in the city more often than none it is something you’ve never done. Well now is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of it as it will give you a view of your city that you haven’t experienced before.

8. Restaurants

Why not go and have a meal at one of those restaurants that you’ve heard attracts the tourists into town, experience a dining experience from the tourist side.

9. Take to the water

Usually there are rivers in and around the city. Why not take a river tour and see what the view of the city looks like from the water?

10. Parks/Reserves/Wetlands

Visit your local parks and wetlands, they are places for leisurely walks and there are maps everywhere on the route, so even if you get lost you’re not really lost.
