10 Tips To Write An Excellent Thank You Email After An Interview

Sending a thank you email after an interview is a common practice. It’s a fast and economical way to make sure recruiters don’t forget about you. Here’s 10 tips to write an excellent thank you email after an interview.

1. Write your email right away

The thank-you email should be sent within 24 hours after the interview. It will show the recruiters that you are really interested in the post. After that, they might have forgotten about you.

2. Include the name of the position in your subject line

The subject line should make it obvious to the recruiters that this is thank-you message. Including the name of the position in your subject line will ensure that the hiring managers notice your response and know that your email is important.

3. Refer to the interviewer by his name

Start your thank you email with a greeting addressing to the recruiters by name. Keep it professional. If you had multiple interviewers, you should send separate emails. Be sure to spell the name right!

4. Remind the interviewer of your qualifications

Confirm that you are a good fit for the role proposed. Make sure to mention any of the keyword skills they requested the candidate to have in the original job offer.

5. Show them you are interested in the position

Reiterate your enthusiasm for the role and then summarize the key tasks of the position. It will show that you perfectly understood what the job was about and that you are confident in filling this position. Also, this is a golden opportunity to include anything you forgot to say during the interview. For example, if you forgot to ask some questions during your interview, you may include them on your email. It’s an alternative way to show your interest and engagement.

6. Avoid making spelling mistakes

Don’t send a misspelled, grammatically incorrect email. Remember to proofread and double-check your text. Be sure to check spelling and grammar before sending it. A thank you note with spelling mistake will look unprofesionnal and unappealing to recruiters. It’s best to get someone else review your email before sending it.

7. Don’t be too informal

Don’t be too casual. Of course, you have to customize and adjust the tone of you letter depending on company you applied to. If your dream job requires creativity or an upbeat personality, make sure your email doesn’t sound too formal. You message should also come accross as genuine.

8. Personalize you interview follow-up email

Always modify your email so each interview gets a unique thank-you message. Try to customize your email by referencing something specific from your interview. This shows that you were interested and listened to what the interviewer said. It will also help the recruiters know who you are. Or, you can show them that your experience and kills can be valuable assets to their company.

8. Link the recruiters some of your work

Provide links to your online portfolio or other professional sites and networks.

9. Keep it brief

The recruiters do not want to read a thank-you letter that takes a full page. This is too long. The message should be concise but shows that you were paying attention during the interview and display your qualifications for the position.

10. Invite them to contact you if they have any question or concerns

Your conclusion should demonstrate your interest in moving forward in the process. Tell them that you’re willing to provide them with any additional information or come to another interview.
