8 Tips For Using A Ouija Board Safely

Using a ouija board doesn’t have to be a terrifying experience. There are an abundance of ways to keep you and your friends safe while you play. Follow our tips below to ensure you get the most fun out of using your ouija board for the first time.

1. Play where you feel safe and comfortable

Playing somewhere familiar and comfortable will help you to relax. It’s not necessary to sit in a creepy basement with all the lights switched off, with a single candle illuminating the board like the scary films might have you believe. You’re way more likely to have a better experience if you play where you feel safe and secure.

2. Use the board while sober

Always play with the ouija board while you’re sober. Once you get into the session and the spirit has enough energy, the planchette can move between letters fast and if you’re intoxicated you may miss what’s being spelled out or forget which questions you’ve already asked, for example. Being sober will also help you to remain in control and focused, which is especially important when you’re dealing with spirits and the unknown.

3. Always have at least two people playing

There are a few reasons why it’s important to use the ouija board in a group. The first is that the spirit you’re talking to sources the energy it needs to communicate from the people playing so the more people playing, the more energy the spirit can use from multiple sources. Playing in a group also means that one person can make notes of the answers the spirit gives, while other people can ask questions.

4. Don’t allow yourself to be scared

One of the best ways for a spirit to garner more energy whilst you’re talking to them through the ouija board is to scare you. This also means you shouldn’t ask questions that you might not like the answer to like, ‘When will I die?’ because if the spirit says in a year, you’ll spend the whole year worrying that you’re going to die when they’re probably just trying to scare you to feed off your energy.

5. Take everything with a pinch of salt

Spirits can lie just like people can, after all, they are just people who have passed over to the other side. Some spirits may lie, others may tell the truth and some just won’t make any sense at all so try to not take what comes through the board too seriously and don’t get hung up on anything that’s said.

6. Always be respectful

Treat the spirits you talk to through the ouija board like you would any person you meet for the first time. Whilst playing with the board might be exciting, don’t get too silly and make fun of the spirit you’re communicating with. Respect the dead and that they are taking the time to communicate with you.

7. Always say goodbye

If you feel uneasy at any point or just want to end the session, simply say out-loud and move the planchette to ‘Goodbye’. Saying goodbye when you want to end the session is really important. It’s not only a polite way of ending a conversation but it also closes the board. You are then free to put the board away or start a new session and contact a different spirit by asking if anyone is there.

8. Part with the board properly

If you decide at any point that you no longer want the ouija board do not throw it away or burn it. The best way to get rid of an unwanted board is to gift it to someone you know. You can even sell them online to buyers who collect haunted objects and used ouija boards.
