5 Things You Need To Know Before Getting Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are the way to go to easily achieve fluttery lashes - here are 5 things you need to know before getting them!

Eyelash extensions can transform your natural lashes to a whole other level of length and lasting volume. But before you go ahead and book your lash appointment(s), here are 5 things you NEED to know before getting them!

1. You’ll Have To Ditch The Mascara

Eyelash extensions provide a full lash look, therefore, mascara is no longer required to make your lashes look fluttery and princess-like. However, that’s not the only reason mascara should be avoided in your daily makeup routine. Removing eye makeup, whilst you have eyelash extensions, is hard and can break down the extensions therefore, you could risk losing your natural lashes.

Other beauty products to avoid if you have eyelash extensions include pencil eyeliners and oil-based makeup removers and cleansers. Pencil eyeliners should be applied sparingly to keep the eyelash extensions clean and free of gunk and build-up to prolong their time spent on your lashes.

Oil-based makeup removers and cleansers will also have to be removed from your routine; eyelash extensions should not come in contact with oil as it will melt the glue and loosen the hold.

2. Your Sleeping Position Will Have To Change

You can no longer sleep facing down if you have eyelash extensions. Doing so will crush your eyelash extensions and ruin their perfect, fanned-out shape. Sleep on your back, or on your side, to avoid losing your extensions and to keep them in the greatest possible condition, before your next appointment.

Why not try investing in a silk pillowcase? They’re gentle on the delicate skin and hair, and they prevent frizziness!

3. Remember To Consider Your Eye Shape

Eyelash extensions are not ‘one size fits all’. We all have different eye shapes so when getting them, it’s incredibly important to consider your eye shape (whether that’s round, deep-set, almond, hooded etc.) to determine what will look (and work) the best for you.

For example, deep-set eyes should choose lashes with more length, density and volume whereas someone with round eyes should opt for long, curly and wispy lashes.

It’s also important to consider the length of the eyelash extensions and the overall weight of them once applied – after all, comfort is key!

4. Clean Lashes Last Longer

Whilst oil-based cleansers and makeup removers should be avoided at all costs, eyelash hygiene is still crucial to make your eyelash extensions last longer and look better. They need to be cleaned daily with lash shampoo to remove any oil and makeup residue, and to extend the life of your eyelash extensions.

Forgetting, or avoiding, to clean your eyelash extensions can be harmful to the delicate eye area. If you choose to avoid cleaning your lashes thinking you are extending them, the debris could lead to inflammation of the eyelid area.

5. Brushing Your Lashes Will Become A Habit

It’s important to remember to comb through your eyelash extensions, with a clean spoolie, regularly to keep them from overlapping and looking like a tangled clump of hair. However, don’t play with your eyelash extensions or brush them too often or harshly as you could risk losing your natural lashes.

Additionally, remember not to rub your eyes! Excessive rubbing will most definitely cause fallout and trust me, you don’t want that. So if you’re low maintenence or SUPER lazy, it might be best to avoid getting eyelash extensions as regular brushing is a must!
