The Top 10 Healthy Foods… Ever

It’s common knowledge that having a healthy diet is really important, and fair play to us, it’ our New Year’s resolution every. single. year. Why? It’s just so hard to stick to (this year we can blame Spoon’s new pizzas), and tbh, knowing what is healthy and what isn’t seems to get more and more complicated. So, here’s a list of the top 10 healthy foods to give you the inspo you may be needing:

1. Almonds

These are quite tasty and packed full of all the right stuff, from vitamin E to iron. Almonds can be eaten just by themselves as a snack on the go- but the benefits are even greater when they are used alongside a healthy diet.

2. Broccoli

Broccoli is rammed with fibre and potassium, and phytonutrients that reduce the risk of developing cancer and heart disease. Just don’t overcook it, or a lot of the good stuff will be lost.

3. Apples

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is a thing for a reason. The fruit has been hailed as a bit of a miracle given its qualities in combatting cholesterol and the ageing process.

4. Kale

Perhaps the most underrated green leaf, with studies finding that it contains 778% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin K. The best news? It can be consumed in smoothie form.

5. Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are actually kind of delicious and have massive benefits too. In fact, they have previously been ranked the best veg for nutrient values. Guilt-free sweet potato fries incoming! These are definitely one of the top 10 healthy foods.

6. Chicken

Free-range chicken is a great source of protein, and as a white meat can be enjoyed much more freely. Just don’t deep fry it, and take off the skin (it has some really high levels of fat.)

7. Eggs

Eggs are the second great source of protein on this list and can be eaten with a multitude of meals, from breakfast through til’ dinner. Even the cholesterol and fat in the yolk has been proven not to increase heart disease risk.

8. Salmon

Salmon is an oily fish that benefits both the heart and the nervous system i.e. patients with inflammatory conditions are advised to try it out. It also contains vitamins A and D and can taste really nice.

9. Blueberries

A bit of a wonder food, blueberries are full of antioxidants, phytonutrient and fibre. High blood pressure and obesity can all benefit from regular consumption of the healthy fruit.

10. Lentils

Fibre, protein, minerals and vitamin all exist within these snacky pulses. They take a long time to cook, but sprouted lentils with a little bit of seasoning can be delicious and nutritious.
