The Easiest Ways To Make Friends As A University Graduate

Making friends at school and university is relatively easy because you’re always surrounded by people your age. However, after you graduate, a lot of people feel as though they’ll no longer be able to meet like-minded individuals and establish meaningful connections. Not to worry, we’ve got you sorted! Check out our list of the easiest ways to make friends as a university graduate.

1. Make use of social media

We all have lots of people in our friends lists that we don’t really talk to. This doesn’t have to be a barrier – in fact, you could use it as a starting point when it comes to making new friends. Be active on your online accounts and see if there are any people that interest you. If they live locally, it’ll be even easier to organise a meet up and get to know them better. Just don’t be afraid to send them a message, they don’t bite!

2. Explore your local city

This may sound like a long shot but it’s really not that hard to run into someone and spark a conversation on the street. All you need to do is take some time to wander around the city and visit popular public spaces such as parks or large malls. I can guarantee that you’ll see someone else who might be on their own and may want some company. If anything, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

3. Attend workshops or classes

This is a great and easy way to get to know like-minded people who have similar interests. Not only will it be easier to start a conversation but you’ll also be able to have fun doing something that you like. There are always tons of things to do in any city, you just have to dig around on social media or the internet in general to find something that piques your interest.

4. Get to know your coworkers

Even if you’re not working with people your age, you could still make an effort to chat to your colleagues and get to know them better. You never know, they could be really fun! It’s worth trying to establish genuine relationships by being yourself and not trying to fit in. Considering that you’ll be seeing those people on a daily basis, you could easily find common ground to talk about. This is one of the greatest ways to make friends as a university graduate!

5. Try something new

You don’t always need to have shared interests if you want to make new friends. A great way to meet new people and motivate yourself to do something new is to join a club or take some classes that will teach you a new skill. It doesn’t matter what you want to learn, just go ahead and take the first step! It’ll be fun to start learning from the bottom and develop together with a bunch of new people.

6. Don’t forget your old friends

Graduating from university doesn’t have to equal losing your old friends! Even if you’ve all moved on with your lives and decided to start something new, it won’t hurt to keep in touch. You never know – your paths may cross again and you’ll be able to uphold your friendship. This could also be a great way to meet new people as your old friends introduce you to their new circle.

7. Get into volunteering

Volunteering is probably one of the best things that you can do for your local community. What’s more, it’s a great way to get in touch with people from your area and get to know them better. These people will have similar values, which will make it easier to find common ground to talk about it. Be sure to get involved next time there’s a volunteering opportunity! This is one of the best ways to make friends as a university graduate!

8. Be open and approachable

One of the easiest ways to make friends is to start with yourself. By that, we mean trying to be more approachable and open to conversation. People will instinctively be more attracted to you if they will see that you take an interest in the outside world and don’t mind strangers. Even something as simple as smiling at someone could lead to a new friend.
