The Best Heels To Buy If You Can’t Walk In Heels

If, like me, you haven’t quite mastered the art of walking in heels yet, you’ll need a little help deciding what are the best heels to wear. To start off, here’s some simple rules:

a) Stay away from stilettos – I know those red-soled Jimmy Choos are beautiful, but honey, you’re going to take half an hour to walk 200 metres in those. They’re for veterans, and you’re only just getting started. One step at a time…literally.

b) Look for platforms – they add the sexy height, but support your soles.

c) Wedged heels are a definite yes – the stability you get from the thick, solid bottom makes it feel like you’re walking in flats.

d) Heeled boots will give you a stronger step – a thicker diameter in the heel itself provides balance.

e) Finally, straps and ties are your best friends – these allow you to tie your shoes as tightly as possible, leaving no space to slide.

Without further ado, here’s the best heels to buy if you can’t actually walk in heels.

1. Wedged Sandals

Wedges will look after you in rough terrain like grass, cobbles, or sand. They have a very strong base, often made from cork, which absorbs harsh impact and gives a flat surface to rest your foot. These shoes say strong, sexy, and capable. Perfect for the stylish, strong-willed jet-setter. Plus, if Jennifer Aniston rocks them, why can’t you? We think these are some of the best heels!

Tip: these shoes are perfect for city breaks, or day trips involving lots of walking.

2. Ankle-Tight Sock Boots

Heeled boots are staple items in every lush lady’s wardrobe. They work in summer and winter, and can turn a casual daytime look into a sleek nighttime look in one step. Sock boots often have a midi height, without platform – which we normally avoid. However, this is where the ‘sock’ comes in useful. The support provided by this extra material will hold your feet snugly in position, and keep your dainty ankles warm.

3. Big Chunky Heeled Boots

Chunky rubber heels are a novice heel-walker’s closest comrade. The rubber soles absorb all impact; the leather upper prevents unwanted movement; the endless laces keep the shoe snug around even the most slender feet; and the zips not only add extra comfort to the inside foot, but make for a cute decoration too.

These stompers add edge to all outfits, and are perfect for clubs. You don’t have to worry about getting stepped on in these shoes, it’s everyone else who has to worry about you stepping on their toes.

4. Platformed High Heel Shoe

Platforms don’t always come in the form of beetle-crushing goth boots. A slender platform at the toe of your dressy heels will maintain height, but reduce the point, letting your foot sit at a more natural angle. This makes cramp less likely, and we’d all like to avoid cramp thank you.

5. The Peep Toe Heel

Peep toes add a little extra flare to the aesthetic of your shoe, drawing the eye to the front of your foot as opposed to behind. This takes attention away from the kitten-like heel many peep-toe sandals have, to create the illusion of a higher heel. This is perfect, because we can’t walk in heels, but we still want to look fancy, and the peep-toe allows for both.

Also, they let your toes breath freely and allow you to show off your fancy fresh pedicure. You will want for nothing more. These are definitely some of the best heels!

6.Midi Thick-Heeled Shoe

The midi heel is an ideal work / dinner hybrid. You can go straight from the office to the bar in these dainty shoes. The open top allows the foot to breathe, thus avoiding sweaty soles, and preventing slippery foot syndrome. They have a sturdy heel (not too high) and a covered toe, meaning the foot is nicely cushioned for day-long comfort.

7. Gladiator Chic

We choose ribbons and ankle ties for the ultimate boho, hippie look. We also choose ribbons and ankle ties because they actually keep the shoe attached to your foot. Going for gladiator chic is the perfect way to make your sensible footwear decisions look hip and cool.

Plus, the brown and tan colours of most gladiator sandals are perfect for summer outfits, Fall walks in the park, and the odd night out. These are some of the best heels!

Follow these rules and you’ll soon be strutting like a queen. No one will ever know you toppled over on the cobbled streets earlier, and that you had to get a taxi driver to help you up, and that you have a huge bruise on your bum because of it. Who me? No, never…
