The Top 10 Songs Of 2019 So Far

We’re not even in a quarter of 2019 yet and so much has happened! We’ve learnt that 21 Savage is actually British not American, we sat in shock watching Surviving R Kelly and we witnessed the Queen GC take a tumble on Dancing On Ice. With all that happening it’s easy to forget that we’ve also been blessed with some proper bangers to grace our Spotify accounts and earphones.

1.) Juice – Lizzo

Singer / Rapper Lizzo is renowned for specialising in shimmery, self-empowering anthems, and Juice might just be her finest feel-good track yet. Singing over a funky, euphoric throwback groove, Lizzo praises the woman in the mirror, dismisses a man who slides in her DMS and sips on Grey Goose. This addictive funk-pop banger is one we’ve got on repeat!

2.) Don’t Call Me Up – Mabel

Little Miss Mabel has done it again; she’s dropped a banger of a track that ignites that good old Friday feeling! One of the best songs of 2019 so far! The track Don’t Call Me Up is a declaration of independence, a middle finger to a possessive ex all enhanced through a tropical-pop background. With Mabel’s surging vocals, an addictive chorus and flourish-soaked beats, Don’t Call Me Up is perhaps Mabel’s most impressive pop moment to date.

3.) Handmade Heaven – Marina

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Marina (formerly, And The Diamonds – Marina dropped the name prior to the announcement of new music.). However four years since the release of her third studio album Froot, Marina is back with her newest single Handmade Heaven being a classic Marina track; forward lyrics at the front and centre, backed by tinkling piano notes and a punchy yet sparse electronic production. She may have shed the diamonds but the sparkle is still there!

4.) Lost In The Fire – The Weeknd

R&B crooner The Weekend’s last release was the six track EP he dropped last year entitled My Dear Melancholy. The EP was reminiscent of his earlier work; moody synths with emotionally driven lyrics, and was a collaboration with French producer Gesaffelstein. The two have teamed up again for their latest single Lost In The Fire which is a gloomy track with Abel’s signature sexual and unforgettable voice soaring over a slick 80’s inspired production.

5.) Talk – Khalid feat. Disclosure

Taking the music industry by storm in the past year, R&B newcomer Khalid teamed up with British producers Disclosure for a brand new track called Talk. The track sees Khalid’s delicate vocals complimenting against the mid-tempo, R&B tinged production and Disclosures signature beats. A Saturday night banger for sure!

6.) 7 Rings – Ariana Grande

Proving she can have whatever she bloody wants, star of the moment, Ariana Grande samples “My Favourite Things” in her newest trap-infused single, 7 Rings. The latest single – which garnered Ari her second number one single – is a boss bitch anthem and unapologetically fierce in its three minute duration.

7.) Hello Happiness – Chaka Khan

The queen of funk herself Chaka Khan dropped a dance infused single entitled Hello Happiness at the start of 2019. The track is an instant feel good track, celebrating the power of music by successfully returning to the warm and intimate groove and strut of her disco roots, easily one of the best songs of 2019!

8.) Is It Really Me You’re Missing? – Nina Nesbit

Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbit wears her heart on her sleeve in her newest single, Is It Really Me You’re Missing? taken from her second studio album, The Sun Will Come Up, The Seasons Will Change. A raw and vulnerable battle to find the truth, Nina’s voice cracks with frustration as she questions a relationship in one of the most emotional songs of 2019.

9.) Moderation – Florence And The Machine

Fresh from the release of their fourth studio album, “High As Hope.” Florence And The Machine drooped a brand new track in January, called Moderation. The track is a typical Florence And The Machine track with a MASSIVE chorus and Florence’s vocals soaring across guitar riffs and crashing drums.

10.) Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have but I Have It – Lana Del Rey

Probably the longest song title EVER (!) Lana’s newest single- taken from her upcoming fourth studio album due to be released in March – is one of the soft and sorrow songs of 2019.  The track retains a simple piano melody and tender vocals that were a key part of Lana’s earliest work however with this single it appears Lana is full grown, with lyrics showing strength an an unapologetic sense of independence.
