Trying to get over an ex is always the hardest thing to do after a break up, expecially if it ended on bad terms. Sometimes, even months or years after they’ve broken your heart, you can’t help but still find yourself thinking of your ex even if you swear you’re already over them. But how do you know if you’ve truly moved on or not? Here are 5 signs you’re still not over your ex.
1. Everything reminds you of them
Whether it be the outfit they said they liked that one time or something related to an inside joke only the two of you know, if random and miscellaneous things keep reminding you of your ex when they shouldn’t, it isn’t a good sign. Just because you aren’t conciously thinking of of your ex every second of the day, doesn’t mean you’re over them. Sometimes, it’s the thoughts that we can’t control that says the most about how we’re feeling, and these thoughts are a clear sign that you’re still not over your ex.
2. Going on dates makes you feel guilty
Do you think about your ex when you flirt with someone new? Or does a sinking feeling churn up in your chest when you go out on dates? If you said yes to any of these questions, this is a clear sign that you’re still not over your ex. It’s one thing to say you aren’t ready for a new relationship, but a whole other if you feel guilty trying to move on.
3. You get sad everytime they’re mentioned
If their name is enough to sour your mood for the whole day, you know you’re still not over your ex. To have so much power over your emotions and not even be anywhere near you just shows how much you still care for them, even if you don’t want to believe it. This is a clear and telling sign that you’re still not over you ex.
4. You have the urge to call/text them when you’re drunk
They say that “a drunk man’s actions, are the sober man’s thoughts”. And personally, I agree with that. Once again, it isn’t always about the concious actions you make when you’re aware of the consequences, but the actions you do when you can’t think straight enough to give a shit. If you’re constantly wanting to call or text them while you’re drunk, regardless of whether or not you actually pull through with it, it’s safe to say that you’re still not over your ex.
5. You can’t get yourself to delete their messages/pictures
I know memories are hard to let go, but if you just can’t find it from within yourself to even entertain the idea of deleting their pictures and/or messages, you know something’s up. Unless you’re constantly looking back on what you had with them (which is already an obvious sign you’re not over your ex), you have no use for their presence to clog up your memory space on your phone. It’s clear that there’s still a part of you who isn’t ready to truly let go of them, which is fine and normal. But there’s no use trying to deny what you know is true: the fact that you’re still not over your ex.
