After Uni

Moving Back To Your Hometown After University? Here’s What To Expect

University is finished and you’re going back to your hometown, your little bubble of teenage borderline adulthood is over and you’re stepping out into the real world. This can come as a major culture shock to some, there will no longer be anyone chasing you for work or pestering you about deadlines, you are finally free from education. Here’s what you can expect when moving back to your hometown.

Change

Your hometown environment may have changed a bit since you’d have been away, so it’s a great time to go and explore the changes and see what’s new in your hometown.

You won’t have the privacy that you had in halls

Whilst living away you’ve gotten used to having your own space under your own roof, moving back home with your parents this won’t be the same unless you have planned to move out of your parent home in your hometown. You’ll have to re-adjust to your hometown environment.

Food in the fridge

You can now look forward to always having food in the fridge and not going broke trying to buy items or living off takeaway. You can always rely on your parents to have some sort of meal ready.

A clean bathroom

After living in accommodation or halls you have learnt to appreciate your bathroom at home because you can wash in a clean environment which you don’t have to worry about contaminating you whilst you’re trying to get clean in the morning.

A warm house

You can now always have the satisfaction of knowing you’re coming back to a warm cosy home whatever the season is. You won’t be struggling in halls with no heating and having to rely on a portable heater to warm your room up for you in the middle of winter.

Looking for work

Now you may or may not be looking to find your graduate job, you might instead be looking to take a year out to travel after studying. This is a new chapter in your life though, you may be back home and have to adjust to a few changes but you are not the same teenager that you were going into your first year of studying you’re an adult now. So utilise the freedom you have and explore, your hometown and the world is your oyster.
