How to be single on Valentine's Day

Being single on Valentine’s Day is not easy… pretty much everything and everybody reminds you of THAT special day : couples displaying affection in public, window shops decorated with a considerable number of hearts and ‘I love you’ stickers, friends talking about their dates … If you have not yet met the love of your life, it is not a reason to stay at home and be sad, or call your ex or go on a date with someone you don’t like that much just to have some company. Some who are single might be ready to mingle as they say, but keep in mind that Valentine’s day is about Love first and foremost- so why not celebrate yourself. After all, you have to learn to love yourself prior to being loved, right?

Here are a few suggestions on how to be single on Valentine’s Day.

Do something you absolutely love.

Watch your favourite movie, go and eat somewhere nice, go to a gig, do some shopping, visit your favourite neighbourhood… nothing lifts the mood more than doing something you love. Just live that moment to the fullest and never forget that being happy depends only on you- yes, YOU.
You might as well do something out of the ordinary such as skating, food or drink tasting, booking a workshop…

Go out with friends and have fun.

You are not alone! Some of your friends might be single as well, and you can all enjoy a night out : just have diner, have a laugh, dance and enjoy yourselves. There is no reason to feel depressed on Valentine’s Day and watch Bridget Jones on repeat while gorging on ice cream, no matter how tempting it might sound.

Treat yourself.

If you are lucky enough to have a whole day off from work or studying, why not visit a new city or book a day at the SPA ? Or have a beauty treatment ? Just gift yourself, you deserve it.

Tell the people you love that you love them.

Being single on Valentine’s Day is not an excuse to give up on love. Telling your relatives or that best friend that stood by your side through thick and thin that you love them and are grateful to have them in your life is also part of Valentine’s Day.
You can cook for your parents or visit your grandmother and share that day with them.

Rest.

If you don’t feel like going out on that day, you may also rest and catch up on your sleep. Relax and have a nice bubble bath, cuddle your cat, listen to some cool music.

Go to a singles-only party.

It is quite a trend nowadays – there is no discomfort, everybody is single. You can try your luck at love. Check out the events organized locally and dive in. Who knows ? Maybe being single on Valentine’s Day this year is the best thing that ever happened to you!

Prepare your favourite meal.

Honestly, what could possibly beat your favourite pizza or some homemade spaghetti carbonara ? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. If you enjoy cooking, all the better ! You can cook the ultimate meal, and suddenly being single on Valentine’s Day is whole new experience. You can find a lot of recipes on the internet, so just be curious. It might also be an excuse to check out that local farmer’s market that your friends are crazy about.

Don’t think of Saint-Valentine’s Day that much (If you can).

You either celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day or you don’t. If you think that it just is not your cup of tea, and that there is nothing special about that day, fair enough. You might choose to live it like any other day. Nothing is wrong with that – everybody celebrates it in their own way.
Just don’t forget to smile !

Happy Valentine’s Day!
