Here’s How To Edit Instagram Photos To Get Lots Of Likes

Let’s face it, Instagram is an essential part of life. But when half of all photos posted receive less than five likes, standing out can be a struggle. Here are some tips if you’re wondering how to edit Instagram photos to get the maximum number of likes!

Amp up the texture

The single biggest factor in making an instagram photo like-able is making it textured. We love to look at texture, so much so that a highly textured imagine can generate almost 80% more likes than a smoother shot (thus explaining the popularity of the brick-wall-selfie). Juxtapose textures in your photographs and exaggerate the effects digitally. If there’s wood in your photo, for instance, making the photo slightly grainier will emphasise this. Above all, avoid smooth images and effects for a more successful Insta feed.

Turn down the saturation

We all know that an oversaturated photograph looks awful… but this dislike may go deeper than we realise. Photos with low saturation are insanely like-able, and even shots with mid saturation markedly less so. This may be because statistically, we prefer images to have a single dominant colour as opposed to many contrasting ones, so lowering the saturation of a shot tones colours down to a more neutral baseline. Therefore, the next time you’re wondering how to edit Instagram photos, know to keep your saturation at a minimum!

Blue is best

Did you know that the temperature of your photographs may be affecting your number of likes? Studies have shown that we respond better to cooler colours than warmer ones — specifically, we like to look at photos that are blue-dominant nearly a quarter more than red-dominant photos — so take the temperature of your picture down a few notches.

Faces

Humans absolutely love looking at other human faces. The irresistible cuteness of puppies is largely because their faces resemble those of human babies. Photos of people are absolute like-bait, so grab your camera and if there’s no one around to take a snap for you, grab your selfie stick too! Photo editing apps like Preview have a Portrait Mode specifically designed to enhance portrait photos… so use it! You can also emphasise your subject by using the focus tool to slightly blur the background.

and last but not least…

The duckface

Possibly the most maligned selfie pose ever… but whether you love it or hate it, boy does it get results. Duck face selfies garner an eye watering 1,112% more likes than a simple smile, so it’s time to perfect that pout! Of course there’s not much you can do in post-production, but statistics show that an ounce of duckface during the photograph is worth a mile of editing afterwards.
