5 Fun Party Games That Aren’t Cards Against Humanity

Now, don’t get me wrong: I love Cards Against Humanity. If you think about it, there’s no better way to get to know someone than to see how dark they’re willing to go on a (mostly) consequence-free card game.

Some of the best memories I have with friends have involved Cards Against Humanity in some way. Playing CAH is a guaranteed success at any party, and even funnier when alcohol gets added to the equation. Don’t be surprised if you end up finding hidden twisted depths to friends you’d never thought had the capability before.

I love CAH, but not everyone does. And that’s fine, of course – there’s enough to do at a party that you don’t have to participate. But if you’re wanting another party game that’s just as great, then you’re in luck. Here are 5 fun party games that aren’t Cards Against Humanity.

1. Dobble

Sticking to the cards theme, Dobble is a family-friendly game perfect for any sort of gathering.

The premise of the card game is that on each card, there is a symbol that matches a symbol on any other card. Mind-blowing, but technically mathematically feasible. However you play the game, you have to spot which symbol on the card corresponds to the card in the middle.

Yes, this is a game you could play at any party – with family, with two people, with ten people – but that doesn’t make it a write-off. What makes this game fun is the sheer thrill of trying to spot the right symbol before your friends do. That need to win gets accelerated with every new card you present. You’ll shout and squeal. It’s intense. Unbreakable friendships will be tested. Nothing else matters – you have to find that symbol.

Before you know it, you’ll be shrieking out the symbols and laughing with your friends about how that symbol was impossible to find!

2. Exploding Kittens

Unconventional title, but somehow it is what it says on the tin. This Russian Roulette-style game requires you to draw cards, and in this case, you don’t want to draw a card that has exploding kittens on it. You can defer your death-by-exploding kittens if you have the right card.

As it’s a pretty simple game, it’ll be easy to pick up even if you’ve got a few drinks in you. There are plenty of expansion packs available if you’re so inclined.

3. Gin Pong

How can beer pong possibly be improved?

By adding gin, is how!

The idea of beer pong is pretty simple – throw your ball into the opponent’s cup so the other person has to drink. As long as you have cups and a ball, you’re pretty set, but this set is specifically for gin pong.

Some people like beer, but some people don’t, and gin is another unifying alcohol that people are very happy to drink together. If you’re looking to get drunk quicker, too, then gin pong is the one for you.

4. Funemployed

Maybe not the best game to play while drunk, as it might impede your ability to improvise. Although, on the other hand, it may just make it more hilarious.

Funemployed is another card game, but it’s unusual in that sets up an interview situation. One player is the employer, with a very unusual job role and can only accept one person. The other players, given a selection of cards, have to pitch themselves to the employer using the cards in their hand.

Because the job roles are not your typical job roles, and the writing on the cards are close in tone to Cards Against Humanity, there’s a lot of freedom to be as hilarious or as dark as you like. It’s all up to you and your creativity!

5. What Do You Meme?

Young people like memes, and the Pope is Catholic. The viral sensations that have taken the world and, indeed, language, by storm, needed to have a game to honour their hilarity, their glory, their ingenuity.

If you consider yourself to be something of a meme connoisseur, then this game was made for you. This is your chance to create the next viral photo and caption combination. This is your chance, once and for all, to show to your friends who is the most powerful memer in the room. Pair the caption and photo from the selection, appeal to the judge of the turn, and bring the fun to the party.
