10 Exciting Destinations For The Easter Holidays

Easter holidays may not be the longest, but it is enough for a family getaway or a trip with your friends. This year, Easter holidays are in April with weather adequate for touristic outings and city explorations, not too warm and not too cold. Each of these destinations for the Easter holidays has quite the cultural atmosphere that breaths with history and tradition. You can find something for anybody: nature lovers, art enthusiasts and fans of mainstream tourist attractions. 

1. Lisbon

Portugal’s capital Lisbon is quite the touristic destination for Easter holidays. As the temperatures usually bounce around 20°/68F, you don’t have to worry about hot flushes or freezing while standing in long queues. Lisbon is a perfect combination of leisure time, touristic attractions and nightlife. 


Anyone that has been to Lisbon will urge you to visit the Torre de Belém — sitting high above Lisbon since its construction in the 16h century. For all architecture lovers, you will get to see a beautiful fusion of styles from the Mudejar to the Moorish, the Gothic to the Romanesque.

Lisbon is often compared to San Fransisco, USA, due to its steep roads that you should explore with the iconic Tram 28. San Fran’s Golden Gate Bridge has a European version in the form of Lisbon’s 25 de Abril Bridge. After a whole day of exploring, check out Bairro Alto, the nightlife hotspot, where you can enjoy old Fado music and drinks to go with it. 

2. Barcelona

Moving on to Spain and the capital of Catalonia region, Barcelona. The Spanish beach city offers attractions that you cannot miss. Barcelona is known for its art and architecture with the works of Antoni Gaudí and his majestic basilica Sagrada Família and Park Güell. 

Gaudí got first started on the basilica Sagrada Família more than 140 years ago. At the moment it is still only three-quarters complete. From here, move to Park Güell, a garden complex on Carmel Hill. From the main terrace of the park, you will get to see the gorgeous panoramas of Barcelona. 


Something for the shopaholics, you need to experience the hustle and bustle at Las Ramblas. The promenade will take you from Plaça de Catalunya to the Columbus Monument at the waterfront. It is one of the main touristy spots, so be aware of pockets pickers. 

3. Rome

A city that goes all out on Easter Weekend celebrations like nowhere else is Italy’s capital Rome. The town puts together parades and ceremonies, enjoyable for both religious and non-religious visitors. 

As a great Easter tradition in Rome is a feast of roast lamb, marzipan pastries chocolate eggs. Tourists are encouraged to pack up their picnic baskets and enjoy the festivities. 

Besides the Easter celebrations, do not forget about the history and architecture that Rome has to offer. The must-see list consists of ancient ruins like the Forum and the Colosseum breathing the history of the former Roman Empire. Moreover, despite your religious beliefs, visit the Vatican city, where the Roman Catholic Church has its headquarters. The atmosphere and architecture are worth the journey. 

4. Venice

The capital of northern Italy’s region of Veneto is the stunning Venice. As Venice is an all-year-round tourist destination, it is hard to avoid big crowds, so beware of the Easter influx of tourists. Even though it may be crowded due to Easter, April is usually recommended as the best time to visit Venice. Especially for Easter Sunday, when you can enjoy the moving late-night Mass. 


The not-so-cold and not-so-warm April temperatures make Venice perfect, no fishy smell and warm enough to enjoy the canal strolls. The experience of getting around the 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea that make up Venice on boat taxis is something you will not experience anywhere else. 

Among the traditional Venice, attractions are theTower at San Giorgio, private Gondola rides and a tour of Saint Mark’s Basilica. 

5. Amsterdam

The Dutch capital of Amsterdam is often a bucket list destination. During this year’s Easter weekend you will get to enjoy the peak of the city’s tulip season. 

After exploring Amsterdam go-to city tourist attractions like the Anne Frank museum, the Vondelpark, the opera house, and hours spent around the city’s canals, take advantage of April’s weather and make a trip to the countryside to the tulip fields, focusing on Keukenhof. 

6. South Africa

For all people that love their adventurous more on the luxurious side, put South Africa into your mix for the Easter Holidays. In April, the weather in South Africa is not too hot, therefore an excellent time for safaris and road trips. 

After spotting wild animals like lions and zebras in a flash, you could spot penguins of Boulders Beach and the seals at Dyer Island. 

If you are a sucker for a good view, the top of the Table Mountain will give you the best picturesque view of Cape Town.

7. Japan

Any tourists visiting Japan in April will be lucky enough to witness the Spring blossom. It is not only a tourist attraction, as the whole country looks forward to the pink and white blooms. 

It is not just a pretty sight to see; it is the symbol of new life. Therefore April in Japan is quite the experience, but do not limit your travels just to Tokyo. Explore the islands, and the mountains especially the Hakone mountain for an excellent adventure. 

8. Florida

Florida might be the perfect combination of activities for the Easter holidays for the whole family. Kids may enjoy theme parks, water parks or an Alice-in-Wonderland-inspired trip, like meeting the Easter Bunny in the Magic Kingdom 

For beach lovers, Florida offers stretches of sand like Daytona, Clearwater, and St Pete’s. Whereas for the adventurers, you can head to the Everglades National Park for turtles and alligators. 

9. Cape Verse Islands

If you are one of those people craving Easter holidays with warmer temperatures, the Cape Verde Islands might be for you. The islands off the West Coast of Africa is best of all worlds, beautiful beaches, culture and reasonable price for value. The temperature might go as high as 25º/77F and for as long as ten hours. 

10. Nepal

The warmest destination for your Easter holidays is in Nepal. The average daytime temperature can reach as high as 30°/86F. However, Nepal requires a particular urge to explore and experience. 

You get to enjoy the warm weather, the fresh mountain air, and blooming rhododendron. Besides nature, you should also tap into the spiritual Buddhist temples of Kathmandu, what could come handy as a stress relief aspect of the holiday. For the bigger adrenaline junkies, you can also search for Bengal Tiger in Bardia National Park.
