10 Dairy-Free Products That Can Replace Your Dairy Items

Vegan diets have seen an increase in popularity recently; not only is it better for the planet, animals, but also better for you too. Despite the health benefits of adopting a plant-based diet, there will be inevitably some treats that you will miss – most of these, such as chocolate, cheese, and ice cream, are dairy-based. Here is a list of 10 dairy-free products to swap to if you’re considering going vegan, or simply reducing the amount of dairy in your diet for other health reasons:

1. Oatly! – Oat Drink for Baristas

There are a lot of dairy-alternative kinds of milk available – Soya, Oat, Almond, Coconut – but what makes this drink particularly special is that it is specially designed for coffee!

It heats and foams up well, making it the ideal alternative product when making a foamy coffee, such as a cappuccino. It can also be used as a regular milk alternative with your morning granola or in a cup of tea, meaning it can easily replace your dairy items and become a staple in your diet.

2. Alpro Coconut Yogurt

This soya and coconut yogurt have a delicious flavour which makes it one of the best dairy-free products to substitute Greek or natural yogurt for breakfast with! It goes really well with granola and berries for a healthy and dairy-free breakfast.

3. The Coconut Collaborative Rice Pudding

Rice pudding is a quintessentially English pud, and a classic that most of us will be familiar with as warm comfort food. The Coconut Collaborative offers a wide range of coconut-based desserts, and this one uses coconut cream to provide a sweet and creamy Rice Pudding that is totally dairy-free.

4. Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy

Ben & Jerrys is one of the biggest ice-cream names in the world for a reason – and now they have recently brought their dairy-free ice cream to the UK! Ben & Jerrys use almond milk to produce their ice cream, and currently offer the flavours Chunky Monkey, Peanut Butter & Cookies and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

5. The Raw Chocolate Company Vanoffee Bar

Most dark chocolate, especially the higher percentage bars, is naturally dairy-free. However, if you are not a fan of the stronger and more bitter taste, there are dairy-free products that can replace your standard dairy chocolate! This one from the Raw Chocolate Company resembles white chocolate in it’s sweet, toffee flavour, and is sweetened with coconut blossom sugar to reduce the number of refined sugars.

6. Sainsburys Free From Coconut Alternative to Cheese

You can make your own vegan cheese which will be more natural and better for you, using cashews and nutritional yeast as a base. However, a lot of supermarkets are beginning to market their own free-from dairy cheeses. This one from Sainsbury’s is made from Coconut oil and retains a bit of its flavour, so don’t expect it to be a like-for-like feta cheese replacement – however, it tastes great and will replace the usual dairy item in your diet.

7. Nush Almond Yogurt

Nush yogurts are made using almonds as a dairy-alternative and their range has some flavours that sound amazing – caramel & hibiscus, blueberry, peach melba and banoffee – meaning that these are a real treat in your lunchbox

Nush also has a smaller range of cashew-based yogurts that you can try.

Eggs can be an important ingredient in a lot of recipes, and when you’re trying to cut out dairy it can leave you at a loss of how to make some of your favourite recipes – most cake recipes require egg!

Orgran No Egg is an egg replacement, and is the equivalent of 66 eggs per packet – so it will also save you money! Perfect for making eggs, meringues and even mayonnaise!
