10 Cute Indoor Plants That Totally Capture Those Tropical Vibes

The tropical vibes are here to stay because we all wanna feel like we’re vacationing from our 9-5 underpaying jobs. But if you feel like your room is missing just a few cute indoor plants, we’ve got the species for you.

These are the plants that are guaranteed to capture those tropical vibes!

1. Parlour Palms

Small scale tropical, this little beauties are miniatures of any of their bigger cousins. They can grow nearly a metre high with a roomy pot, or be kept small if you’re looking for a little table decor.

These plants are perfect for low-lit places, need to be kept moist, and like all tropical plants, prefer a little more humidity in the air. If you’re looking for something little to keep on your bedside table, the parlour palm is definitely an option for you! Plus it’s pet-friendly too!

2. Bangalow Palm

If you want a palm with a little more grandeur, look no further than the Bangalow Palm! These palms can grow a few metres in height, even indoors. Keep it well watered in summer and sit in just shy of a window, and she’ll be sure to flourish!

These are definitely one of the best tropical palms to keep in your house, and not at all toxic to your pets or yourself!

3. Bird Of Paradise

Their wide leaves and brilliant flowers make these plants a stand-out in any tropical house. And while you often see them planted outside, they can make nifty indoor plants too! You can keep them small, or grow them as big and wide as you want!

These plants love their sunlight, so best sit them near a window. Misting these (and other tropical plants) also helps promote humidity and keep them healthy.

Be careful about this one around pets, however. It might only be “mildly” toxic, but it’s definitely one to keep away from pets.

4. Cast Iron Plant

A more pet-friendly option is the cast iron plant, which still gives you those beautiful, long leaves, though without the brilliant flower. These babies are a great alternative to birds of paradise plants and peace lilies.

Plus, their super low maintenance and can thrive in pretty much any position.

5. Golden Cane Palm

These palm tree loves full sun but can be grown indoors with some TLC. If you’re careful not to overwater and to keep it well-misted, this palm will reward you with some brilliant fronds that sprout pretty much from top to bottom.

These palms are perfect for filling those empty corners in your house that just need something to spice them up!

6. Zanzibar Gem

Another plant that is so ultra pretty but not for pet-lovers. If you like to live a cat-less life, however, this stunner is for you!

They prefer a more shaded position in the house and have a pretty unique shape to them to break up all those tropical palms you have around. Like most plants with thicker leaves, this beauty doesn’t need to be watered as often and likes to dry out in between watering.

7. Monstera

The one, the only. The monstera is an insta-famous plant used in many bedroom selfies – and for good reason. This swiss-cheese-looking plant is wonderfully tropical and so unique.

There are both large and small varieties to suit your needs, and neither of them is that high maintenance. Just a little TLC and these guys will give you some of the most beautiful growth in a year.

Absolutely a tropical must-have.

8. Baby Umbrella Tree

AKA the Schefflera plant. It’s a super cute, super little plant perfect for the bookshelf or kitchen bench. Because it’s so hardy, this one is for the plant-lovers who might be just a little neglectful of their green babies.

But the fact that it’s so itty-bitty and unique makes it a great tropic-looking plant without the upkeep of other tropical plants.

9. Elephant Ears

If you want a big plant, then we’re gonna give you a big plant.

If you keep these guys out of direct sunlight and moderately well-watered, they can grow to towering heights. Or you can select a smaller variety for the smaller space – but if we’re going on vacay in our living room, isn’t bigger, better?

10. Philodendron

Bright indirect sunlight, a little water, and these babies can withstand anything! The philodendron plant is the cutest guy for any dresser, bookshelf, or desk, and it’s another style-breaker among tropical palms.

Even better is how hard it is to kill – which happens to the best of us.
