10 Beauty Tips To Follow If You Have Combination Skin

Combination skin can b difficult to take care of. It’s a skin type that is is neither too dry or oily, and it’s generally a mixture of both. One way to identify if you have a combination skin type is that most of the time you’ll have more oil on your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin areas). The other parts of your face would be normal or dry and this varies from person to person.

Since it’s such a mixture of different skin types, it can be difficult to figure out what you should and shouldn’t be doing. To help you out, here are 10 tips that you should be following if you have combination skin.

1. Avoid soap

Using soaps for your delicate facial skin is one of the worst things you can do. Soaps will dry out your skin which can cause irritations that can exacerbate skin problems. Drying out your skin also promotes oil production in an attempt to fix the problem. Avoid soap and opt for a gentle cleanser that’s suitable for your skin type.

2. Moisturiser is your best friend

Apply a light layer of moisturiser to your face will work wonders. It will moisturise the dry areas on your face and actually mattify the oily areas on your face as it reduces the promotion of oil production. Dry skin also gets irritated easily so moisturising helps to prevent that.

3. Live by the CTM routine

The CTM routine basically means cleansing, toning and moisturising. Cleansing and toning your skin really helps to clear out your skin, and moisturising hydrates your skin after washing so that your body doesn’t produce excess oil.

4. Use toner

Toner is a must-have in everybody’s skin care regimen, especially for people who have combination or oily skin. Applying toner balances your skin as it removes any traces of the cleanser and shrinks open pores to prevent dirt settling on your skin.

5. Never skip the cleanser

One rule you should learn to live by is to always remove your makeup once you’ve arrived home. Wearing makeup overnight is just a terrible idea overall, so make sure to cleanse before bed. It’s also advised to cleanse your face in the morning to remove any dirt before applying makeup or getting on with your day.

6. Use sunscreen

Sunscreen should be a staple in your beauty routine. It’s key for protecting your skin when you’re outside. As to what sunscreen to use, buy one that is meant for your skin type. Always make sure to check the labels and recommendations before purchasing and applying to your face.

7. Exfoliate every now and again

Though you shouldn’t be doing this every day, exfoliating a few times a week is recommended. It gets rid of dead skin cells, whiteheads and blackheads. Exfoliation opens up the pores which help it to absorb vitamins and nutrients from other products in your skincare routine. Avoid exfoliating daily as it can irritate dry skin.

8. Blot the oil away

If you have a very oily T-zone, especially in the warmer months, definitely invest in oil blotting sheets. These are small papers that come in packs that are easy to carry on the go. They’re a quick and easy way to get rid of the oil build up throughout the day and are great at absorbing oil without ruining your makeup.

9. Avoid touching your face

This can be a hard habit to break, but touching your face is doing more bad to it than good. It transfers germs and dirt, and picking at any spots can enlarge pores, cause more oil secretion, or cause inflammation.

10. Apply night-cream before bed

A night cream will repair and moisturise your skin. Your skin absorbs all the vitamins from the cream overnight, giving your skin a morning glow by the time you wake up. A lot of creams also have anti-aging properties which are recommended from the get-go.
