If you find yourself in Leicester and wondering where to eat then head to one of these excellent establishments. Avoid the fast food and chain restaurants and try something different, whether it is super sunny or below freezing you may be surprised at the delicious food places Leicester has to offer.
These incredibly delicious Artisan gelatos are created by two Italians and their specials change on a weekly basis. They have aa wide range of fres produce as well as some fine coffee and hot drinks selection. I enjoyed an absolutely divine lemon and sage gelato with a avendar and honey one -yum!
This award winning chocolatier is where I go to get dark chocolate covered coffee beans, which is exactly the pick me up I need in the middle of the day. It has every variety of chocolate you can think of and a chocolate workshop as well, make sure to drop in for their free samples.
I love, love, love Delilah’s! Homemade, authentic meals and incredible desserts can be found in this delicatessen as well as a wide range of carefully selected items for your pantry. You can create your own picnic hamper with Delilah’s or create a bespoke Christmas hamper for your nearest and dearest. Be sure to try their rocky road dessert for the ultimate afternoon pick me up.
This independently owned coffee shop boasts what I feel is the most delectabe coffee in town. They are a supplier of Monmouth coffee which pairs wonderfully with original Tunnocks teacakes and caramel wafers which can be tricky to find these days. It is only open Monday to Friday though and the friendly owners will happily chat whilst you enjoy their goods.
Bistro Pierre is an incredibly upscale French restaurant which will not break your budget. They host tasting menus on a monthly basis and have delicious and varied specials everyday. My favourite meal included a scallop and chorizo starter with a sumptuous vegetable tart for a main.
This is less of an eatery and more of an incredible cocktail bar (they may also serve ‘upscale’ nuts and pork scratchings). I had two Basil Faulty cocktails and had a fantastic night, from what I can remember. It is a quirky venue with social seating, local art for sale on the walls and a desirable outdoor seating area which is perfect for these warm summer nights.
This eatery is always packed between 12-2pm and boasts local fresh gourmet convenience for everybody. They serve ‘nourishment bowls’ and ‘seoul food’ which means this delightful treat is designed to be good for you and scrumptious.
This well hidden coffee shop is a tasty treasure to find. It has a chic interior design, plays soft and relaxing music and has some of the greatest (and biggest!) handmade desserts to offer.
I came to be a big fan of Delish when I worked around the corner. It is a fast paced cafe with a big menu selection. You can buy a fresh batch of pancakes, a variety of wraps and salads and fresh fruit and veg smoothies at a low cost, so you can be good to yourself, and your wallet.
Doorstop Desserts made the list for me because of their unusual and international sweet selection and it is the only place I have ever seen a ‘sweet burger’ which is a chocolate brownie ‘patty’ enclosed in a choux bun and served with cream!
