We’ve all dreamed of going on a crazy, once in a lifetime trip while in college. Whether it be a senior trip, spring break or just summer vacation, we all could use a little advice on how to make the most of our trip. Below are 12 travel tips that everyone should know before their next trip!
Valuables
Don’t bring anything you can’t replace, fix, or live without. Let’s be honest, at some point (if not the whole time) during this trip, there will be drinking. We all know what can happen when a bunch of rowdy, drunken people get together. Your possessions could be lost, stolen, broken or ruined. It’s important to keep any valuables and money hidden.
Pain Relief Medication
Drinking or not, it’s always a good idea to have some aspirin on hand for any possibly injuries or sickness.
Towels
No matter where you are staying, it’s best to always have an extra on-hand towel. Whether for the beach or the bathroom, take a cheap one you can leave or discard at the end of your trip.
Sun and Sand Protection
If you’re going to a tropical climate, bring your own sunscreen. Don’t plan on sharing with your roomies, you’ll run out or someone will get selfish. It’s almost always cheaper to purchase sunscreen at home than wherever you’re headed. It’s better to bring your own than to have to shell out a few more bucks that could go towards some great souvenirs. A hat and sunglasses are always good to have for the beach or pool. You should also plan to bring a few plastic bags to use for your phone and electronics. Simply put a small sandwich bag around your phone and voila! It’s protected from the sand and water.
Coffee
If you are an everyday coffee drinker like I am, it’s a great idea to grab a mini bag of instant coffee. I know, I know, it sucks. But, having instant coffee with you comes in handy if your room doesn’t supply you with a coffee pot, or if there isn’t a shop within walking distance of your place. You can pick up mini instant packs at Starbucks. They have individual packets you just add to water and shake. It’ll at least hold you over until you can find some real coffee.
Entertainment
It’s always a good idea to mix up your entertainment for those long, hot days by the water. Playing wiffle ball and Frisbee is great and all, but at some point everyone wants a few minutes to relax. It’s a good idea to bring more than just one option, so pack a book or two, your headphones, and a few magazines. They’ll come in handy on the plane, too.
Snacks
Throw in a box of protein bars in your suitcase. They’ll help curb hunger when you’re waiting on all your girlfriends to get ready for dinner. After days spent in the sun, you’re going to want some food, to keep hunger at bay, but also to soak up all that fruity alcohol.

It’s always exciting getting ready and packing for your getaway, but what about the actual travel day? If you’re going to be on a long flight, or stuck in the car for a long time, there are certain fashion essentials you need.
Pants
For long summer car rides, comfy shorts are my go-to. Flowy shorts come in so many patterns and styles and still look adorable and casual. For flights, I usually grab my amazing American Eagle leggings,or Lululemon leggings. I can easily dress them up or down depending on my destination. If you want a little more put together look, jeggings are also a great option. My favorites are from the Bullhead brand at Pacsun.
Top
My destination will usually help determine my top. For short trips, a simple t-shirt will do. If I’m going abroad, I like to look a little more put together with my outfit and will pair leggings with a nice blouse that still gives me the comfort I want while traveling. A sweater or jacket is also a must for plane rides – I’ve had many freezing flights when I forgot a jacket and they are not fun!
Shoes
Slip-on shoes are a must when traveling through the airport or in a car, especially when I have to go through security. Sandals are also nice because they are easy to slip them off when you need to. Tip: wear your bulkiest shoes on the plane to free up more space in your suitcase.
Makeup
I’m the type of girl who would rather sleep in than do my makeup, but waiting to board in the airport is the perfect time to put on makeup. When I do put on makeup, I keep it light and simple. I start off with primer to even my skin tone and to ensure that my makeup lasts all day. I then move on to concealer. I usually use Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer. I also LOVE the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream – it has great coverage for a tinted moisturizer, but is light and great for long days of travel. I finish my look off with my Rimmel Stay Matte powder, some blush, and water proof mascara, like the Maybelline Colossal Waterproof Mascara.
Carry-on
I find it easiest if I can take a bag that fits under the seat in front of me or that will still give me the most legroom in a cramped car. Large bags like the Longchamp “Le Pliage” tote are great for fitting all you need into an easy-to-carry tote. Backpacks are even easier for freeing your hands while walking around the airport and have plenty of small compartments for storage. Having a cute carry-on is just half the battle of the airport – what to pack inside is the most important.
