In order to accurately depict the animals from the original, filmmakers relied on motion capturing video techniques to study the movement of animals. In addition to this, actors and actresses were required to wear virtual reality headsets on set. With the use of the headsets, the actors were able to see one another as well as the plains where the original took place. Rather than just utilizing voice-overs, the filmmakers wanted to give the actors a realistic experience when filming. This allowed the actors to connect with their characters and give a compelling performance.
