10 Things You Need For Your First Apartment

Moving into your first apartment is an exciting step into adulthood. However, some basic essentials that makes a comfortable home can slip your mind. When you are getting your first set of keys, make sure you have these things to help you settle in!

1.Furniture

It might be obvious that you’ll need a mattress and bed frame, but don’t forget your sitting and dining area. Purchasing a couch creates a comfortable and welcoming living area that you’ll want to spend time in. A small dining table can encourage you to utilize all your space. Remember, you have more then a bedroom now!

2. Toolbox

A toolbox is essential in any home, but can often be overlooked. Hammers and zip ties are the small things that you don’t think about until you need them. Head to the nearest hardware store and grab the must haves in your toolbox such as hammer, nails, screwdriver set, zip ties, snakes (for the drain), tape measure, pliers, level, and a trusty flashlight.

3.First Aid Kit

Another item you may not remember until you are in need is a first aid kit. It doesn’t have to look like a doctors first aid, but when you in need of a bandaid you will want one on hand. Some items to stock your first aid includes bandages, gauze, rubber gloves, tweezers, skin tape, ice pack (put it in your freezer), pain killers, and cough drops.

4.Kitchen Essentials

It can be frustrating when all your moms utensils are no longer available. A thoughtfully stocked kitchen will help encourage you to spend more time cooking and less on take out. Some kitchen essentials you’ll want are dishes, silverware, tupperware, pots and pans, oven mitts, spatulas, can opener, bottle opener, cutting board, mixing bowls, and some hand towels.

5. Cleaning Essentials

Keeping a clean environment with help you feel comfortable and relaxed in your new home. However, it makes it easier to keep you place clean if you have all the necessary tools at hand. Some basic things to keep in your closet are a broom, dustpan, rags, spray surface cleaner, vacuum, and extra sponges.

6.Fan and Ceramic Heater

When the weather starts to change, you want to make sure that your apartment stays at a comfortable temperature. Keep your heating and cooling bills down by investing in a small ceramic heater in the winter, and a small air conditioner and fan for the hot months. Trust me, this will make you much less cranky on those hot summer nights.

7.Extra Blankets and Towels

When you friends and family come to stay, you want to make sure that your guests are as comfortable and relaxed as you are in your new space. Having a couple of extra blankets and towels on hand is never a bad thing. Plus, a small blanket on your couch will give it a warm and welcoming appeal.

The main thing to remember when moving into your first apartment is that it will most likely not be the last place you move. Settling in and getting comfortable is never a bad thing, but just remember that everything you bring in will eventually have to be moved out. Investing in things like scarf material tapestries, canvas art, and lightweight drapes will reduce your moving headache.
