15 Things To Do When You Are Feeling Down

When you are feeling down, it can be hard to really put some effort into feeling better, especially if it isn’t triggered by anything specific or out of your control. Here are a list of 15 things for you to try out when you are not feeling like yourself.

1. Call a friend or family member to talk

Talking to people you care about can help draw up happy emotions. It is especially important to talk to people that you can confide in and tell them your problems. They can probably help you find a solution to whatever you are going through. Even if they cannot help you physically, it is nice to talk and vent to someone about your struggles.

2. Go for a walk

Moving your body and being active can really put your mind at ease. It doesn’t have to be for a long time, just long enough for you to go outside and do something different. Studies show that exercise and physical activity can really boost one’s mood, so why not give it a try?

3. If you have a pet, snuggle with them

There’s nothing like snuggling up a cute little doggo. No matter what kind of pet you have, animals can sense when you are not feeling your best. Take time out of your early mornings and late nights to cuddle up next to your dog or cat. 

 

4. Drink some water and enjoy a nice, healthy meal or snack 

Sometimes when we are feeling down, we tend to stop taking care of ourselves. Try and keep your basic priorities met. Self-care is not always lathering on face masks or just beauty products like depicted on social media. Self-care can be as simple as making sure you eat something or taking care of your body.

5. Write in a journal 

If you cannot talk to anybody soon, then you can always write what you feel down in your journal. Sometimes if something is your mind, it can lead to insomnia, which is definitely not fun. If you ever find yourself needing some instant comfort, you can use your journal to express some of the emotional turmoil you are going through. You can even write down some possible solutions to your problem.

6. Listen to music that you love 

Music can really heal you. Live your best life can blast some of your favorite tunes to help improve your mood. Listening to music that you love can bring you back to some sort of happiness that you have. Especially tip is especially helpful if you are having a hard time finding something to get your mind off of things.

7. Watch your favorite TV shows for a bit 

When you have time to unwind, it can great to watcha favorite TV shows, preferably one that’s a comedy. There’s nothing like laughter to help soothe those emotional wounds. You can even invite a friend over to watch some of the shows with you, so you can have someone to laugh with and enjoy their company.

8. Be Creative 

This tip is especially useful for all your creatives. Using your creative skills is a great coping mechanism. Whether it’s water painting, writing, sketching, sewing, whatever it is, take time to do it regularly to release some of that negative energy. The day to day life can sometimes wear down a person, so creative hobbies are an excellent way to preoccupy your mind with other things.

9. Take a little nap 

If you have weird sleep patterns, sometimes a lack of sleep can affect your emotions. If you are feeling down for no reason and you are not sure why but you re irritable, taking a quick nap can really help out. When you don’t get a good amount of sleep, it can be hard to enjoy all the finer things in life.

10. Drink some green tea instead of coffee

If you struggle with anxiety, the large amounts of caffeine in coffee can worsen your condition. Green tea has some caffeine but is not as harmful to the body. Green tea also has more health benefits due to the high level of antioxidants that it has. 

11. Put on your makeup and favorite outfit 

Putting some extra effort into your appearance can help you feel more joyful and happy in your life. When you look at your best, you will eventually feel your best. It doesn’t have to be a lot of work. It could just be washing your face and conditioning your hair, or wearing a nice outfit that is a bit fancier than your average attire.

12. Read a book 

Book are a great way to escape some of the disturbance and obstacles that life throws at you. Reading is a good way to keep your mind off of things that may be troubling you in your day to day life. Reading is probably one of the healthiest forms of escapism, so you aren’t feeling like yourself, go to the library and pick out a few books to read during your free time.

13. Meditate/ Deep Breathing 

Meditation and deep breathing are cited to be an incredible way to manage your moods. They are an excellent way to quiet your mind and release some of the anxiety that you experience during the day. There are multiple meditation apps available that you can use to improve your mental state. 

14. Watch your favorite YouTube channel 

YouTube is pretty much the new TV. Many of having channels and people that we watch on a regular on the platform. You can use that as a source of entertainment to escape your life just like you would with TV, video games, or books. You can even find some self-help and motivational videos to give you a different perspective on how to handle your moods. 

15. Treat yourself to something sweet 

Eat something sweet, preferably chocolate. Chocolate is great because it has been known to increase natural endorphins called dopamine to help you feel happier.
