Bedtime is borderline the best part of everyday! But sometimes getting to sleep, having a good night’s sleep, and being ready to wake up in the morning can be difficult. But sometimes having a pre-bedtime routine can help with all of that! Here are 10 things to do before bed for a better you.
I know you’ve heard this a million times, but it really is helpful to completely unplug 45 minutes to an hour before bedtime. The light from the screens can interrupt the circadian rhythm (the time it takes to reach a deep sleep). Instead spend this time winding down with a good book or listening to soft music.
2. Jam on your planner
Before bed your mind can be left reeling with forgotten items from the day and things you have to do the next day. Spend 5-10 minutes writing down your to-do list in a planner or on a notepad so you can relax before you go to sleep.
3. Have a nightly ritual
Having a consistent routine of brushing your teeth, washing your face, applying lotion, etc. will send signals to your body telling you its time to go to sleep, making you tired!
4. Clean up
This is especially important if you live in a dorm room! Cleaning your room before you go to sleep can be super important. It will not only help you to relax more before bed, but in the morning it will make getting ready so much easier if everything is put away!
5. Lay out tomorrows outfit
I don’t know about you, but one of my biggest struggles in the morning is picking out an outfit. So why not do it before bed! Ten more minutes of sleep sounds way better to me!
6. Have a healthy skin care routine
This routine doesn’t have to be lengthy, but having a skin care routine can help you put the ‘beauty’ in beauty sleep. Make sure you NEVER sleep with your makeup on, and while you sleep is a perfect time to use a spot treatment for those stubborn pimples and blemishes.
7. Write in a journal
Keeping a gratitude journal that you write in regularly can be very beneficial. It will allow you to reflect on the good parts of your life and the best parts of your day. And if you ever get down you can read back and reflect on what you have written.
8. Talk to your family
Before bed is a perfect time to reach out and face time/call your family. Even if its only once a week it usually brings your spirits up and will leave your family happy that you reached out!
9. Meditate or do yoga
Spending some time doing calm activities or doing some yoga can really prepare you for a good night’s sleep. Pinterest is full of great yoga routines that also help your flexibility!
10. Make sure you are getting enough sleep
Scheduling when you go to bed can ensure that you are getting a healthy amount of sleep each night and allow your body to get into a good sleep routine. This will make you much more energized and happy in the mornings.
These simple steps can help you have productive nights that lead to a better you overall. Do you know any things to do before bed that help you become a better you? Comment below!
