Pulling up to your dorm building on moving day is very intimidating. Here are some things I wish I knew during my freshman year at Bloomsburg University!
I know you’re nervous and just want to be able to call home saying you met a friend, but don’t be discouraged if that friendship doesn’t last forever. College is all about meeting new people, so keep your options open!
The classrooms at BU can be difficult to find. Before your first day of classes walk around campus and find where you need to be so you aren’t that late kid walking into a huge lecture.
This is a dead giveaway to the upperclassman that you are a freshman. Keep your lanyard in your backpack or pocket so it is easily accessible.
You will thank yourself when you have FLEX left in April.
Although the showers are cleaned daily, just remember you are sharing a shower with about 15 others.
Everyone has a different schedule and that’s okay! Grab a salad from Husky and go on your laptop. No one will care if you’re eating alone.
If you really want to wear a dress to class go right ahead but most students wear leggings and sneakers.
For the most part, no one knows who you are when you first come to college. This allows for you to become a new person and make a name for yourself. Don’t dwell on the past.
Although the food as Bloomsburg is good, nothing beats Mom’s homemade lasagna. Enjoy family dinners while you can because in a short time you’ll only get that at holidays.
Make sure you end up staying in the class and have the correct book title before you spend over $300 at the University Store. Also, check out Amazon Prime or Chegg for cheaper book prices.
Yes the first week of college is one of the hardest times in your life. Moving away from home and everything you’ve known for the past 18 years. Call home a few times but then learn to live on your own. Greatest lesson I learned was to text my parents each day and then call on the weekends to fill them in on your week!
These will make your life so much easier when you are doing laundry. Throw one of these into the machine and you will be on your way.
Commons cookies, bagels from Husky and late night wings will catch up to you. Thankfully the hills of Bloomsburg help balance out the calorie intake.
I cannot stress this one enough! Being able to look back on photos with my best friends and remembering a night we had or our first football is so important. You only experience Freshman year once so make sure you capture every moment!
Skipping class just puts you behind and can get you confused. Plus, once you skip one class it just makes you want to skip every class.
The academic quad at Bloomsburg is on top of a hill. The walk to class is a tough one. You and your feet will thank me later.
If a professor knows who you are, the class will be even more enjoyable. They like when they know a familiar face so volunteer, go to office hours and ask questions if you are confused.
Going to the library increases the amount of work you can get done without all of the distractions you would have in your dorm room. Go to the 4th floor and you’ll get double the work done.
It is okay to treat yourself every once in awhile but everyday can be a bit excessive.
This seems like an easy one but it can be difficult to juggle classes, clubs and roommates troubles but try your best to have fun. Try new things and meet as many people as you can!
