The Best Wireless Plans For Students

You will be using your phone and laptop a lot when you go to college. Some parents might already pay for your wireless plans, but maybe you are ready to leave their phone plan and start your own. So, it is always good to look at the options and choose the best plan for a decent price that won’t make you broke.

There are some plans that you can get with a student discount that can save you some money, and there are others that include great benefits within the package, like including Hulu in your plan for little to no extra charge. It is all about where to look.

Something to keep in mind, a lot of the cheaper wireless plans from these companies are going to be super cheap because they include only the bare bones. As a student, you will be using your phone to text and make calls a lot, so make sure that as you look around, you find one that works with your typical amount of usage each month.

AT&T

AT&T can be very expensive when it comes to unlimited data usage. Sometimes their monthly wireless plans cost $60-$90 for just a single line. Though that might be something that turns you away immediately, you might be able to qualify for school-based savings through the AT&T Signature Program. You might qualify for discounts and benefits on wireless plans and devices. Click the link to find out.

Sprint

If you are looking to go into a wireless plan with some friends, Sprint might be your best option. For one line per month is around $50, two lines are $40, and then 3-5 lines are free. If you go into this with friends, it would only be $90 a month which is great compared to about $200 with other companies.

If you do plan on doing this, make sure you talk with your friends and really get serious about this. Going into purchases like this with other people can be kind of tricky because you don’t want to end up feeling stuck later on.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile does not offer student discounts on monthly wireless plans. They do offer a discount on their phones if you are looking to buy a new one. If you contact the number 1-844-703-1366, ask them about their Campus Exclusive Offer to see what kinds of discounts you can get on their phones.

T-mobile is also a great company to go through if you are looking to getting multiple lines with your friends. If you get four lines on your contract, you and your friends will only be paying $40 a month for your wireless plan.

FreedomPop

If you are not looking for a huge wireless plan that will cost you a ton each month, FreedomPop is a great company to go through because you can get this service for free! It is super limited though as to what you will be getting.

Their basic plan starts out at just 200 minutes, 500 texts, and 500 MB of data. If you are someone who doesn’t use their phone that much or is in a pinch, this is a great place to go to. If you are looking for more included within the package, their other wireless plans offer more at very reasonable prices.

Scratch Wireless

This company offers the cheapest wireless plan currently. Their basic plan costs just $69 per year, but there are some catches to it. First, you have to buy a phone from them and you do not have a choice. The phone yo get is an $89 Android phone called the Coolpad Arise. The $69 a year only covers WIFI calls and cellular texting.

They give you the option of paying for Voice or Data Passes to make calls or use data. You can get 100 minutes $7.99 more or unlimited for $14.99 more. This deal isn’t super great, but you will not be paying a huge amount each month for super basic plans.

Republic Wireless

Republic Wireless uses a hybrid system for their phones. They allow you to use WIFI and cell service for data. This saves you a lot of money. The only downfall is you won’t have a ton of coverage while traveling.

As a college student, a lot of the homes, campuses, or coffee shops you go into will have WIFI, so you will be covered a majority of the time. Republic Wireless has a lot of wireless plan options that are all based on how much cell data you need to use.

All of their plans include unlimited talk and text for $15 a month. You can add 4G LTE cell data for $5 a month more. Then, they charge an extra $5 for each additional one GB of data.

MintMobile

This company is very unique when it comes to their wireless plans as you can buy three months for just $15. They call it “wireless in bulk” and this deal comes with unlimited talk and text, 3GB of 4G LTE data. You just have to purchase three months in advance.

If you are looking for more GB, you can spend ten dollars more and get 12 GB per month. That also includes nationwide coverage and free calls to Mexico and Canada.

Red Pocket

If you don’t mind another bare-bones wireless plan, Red Pocket offers a cheap basic level of services for $10 a month. This basic package offers 500 minutes, 500 texts, and 500 MB of data. Their other plans go all of the way to unlimited. But if you look, for $5 more, you can get 1000 minutes, 1000 texts, and 1000 MB of data. That seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Going to school is spendy enough, having to pay for a wireless plan shouldn’t be one of the most expensive things you are paying for. These companies offer reasonable wireless plans as well as deals on their phones. Tell us which wireless plans you choose down in the comments below!
