The Best Tips For Traveling On A Budget

Traveling to a new location can be exciting, but it is not something that you want to go broke doing. A few budgeting tips will allow you to have an enjoyable trip while saving your bank account.

Plan Ahead

Spontaneous trips are always fun but can eat away at your budget because you have not planned appropriately. When you make your plans in advance, you will find more deals the further out that you make plans. For the best deals, start planning six months in advance to get deals on a hotel’s reservations. When it comes to flights, you can book a fight with some airlines up to a year in advance. Both services have the same principle as the more closer you get to the date needed for the service, the higher the price.

Tip: Plan your vacation on the off seasons for the best price. On the off seasons, there are not many tourists in the areas, so you will be able to get the best price possible. It will definitely save your budget, and if you are a person that does not like to be around a large group of people, then this is a great option for you.

BYOF (Bring Your Own Food)

Another way to save your budget is to bring your own food on your trip when traveling. It is a much cheaper option than to pay to eat out on the way. I am not saying that you can not eat out the entire vacation, but limiting the amount you do is important. When you are deciding on a hotel to stay in, you can reserve a room in a hotel that has a kitchen or stovetops. If the hotel room does not have access to the kitchen, then you can pick up some microwave dinners and eat those or buy the things that you need to make a sandwich. All you need to do is go to the store once you get to your location so you can have the freshest food possible.

Tip: There are some hotels that offer complimentary breakfast. If you happen to reserve a room at a hotel that offers this service, take apart of it. It will be one less room you have to pay for every day. If you are not a morning person to eat breakfast, you can always wake up for breakfast pick up what you want, take it your room, and go right back to sleep. Then eat it later. P.S. There is no dress code. You can go to breakfast in your pajamas to get your breakfast.

Make Money As You Travel

Who does not want to make money while enjoying new places? You can use your ride-sharing apps such as Uber or Lyft, to make money on vacation. It will save your budget by giving you some extra funds. Just download the app if you do not have it already. With this option, you can at least make the gas money for your entire trip, depending on how far away that you go. It will give you a chance to see different parts of the city and talk to some of the locals. They might tell you of some great places to check out to make your trip more memorable.

Pack For Different Weather

Weather can be unpredictable. The way that you can save your budget is to pack a variety of different types of clothes. You can never go wrong with packing two pairs of jeans minimum, an umbrella/ rain jacket or coat, and a jacket or hoodie. These types of clothes that you bring with you will be a lot cheaper than buying extra clothes on the trip which can save you money. Plus it is cheaper to wash some of your clothes than to buy more when you are on a trip.

Tip: If there is a dollar tree nearby, you can buy a small container of detergent and fabric softener to wash a small number of clothes.

Check out what is available in the community that you can visit for free. You can go to a museum to see the history of the town or to an art museum to see different types of artists in different locations. National and State parks are also a good option for a place to visit when you are on a budget. There are probably a lot more places that you can go to as well. Just do a little research before you get to your travel location, or you can ask your hotel representative what options are out there in the city. Sometimes depending on where you go, some hotels have a list of locations to choose from and could possibly have some free options for you to choose from.

Two Is Sometimes Better Than One

There are perks to traveling by yourself, but traveling with someone else can be a budget saver. When you share some of the expenses with someone else, you both benefit, whether it is on hotel fees, or if you go on a road trip, the cost of gas. Just make sure to pick someone who is a great fit to go on a trip with and not someone who doesn’t want to be there. You want it to be a memorable positive experience.

Tip: Make sure that you set up an agreement before you plan and go on the trip together, so there is no misunderstanding about what each person is responsible for payment on the trip. When you go on a trip with a friend, you should come back friends and not further away from each other because of a money situation. Communication is always key in pretty much anything that you do in life.
