New to Denton or just looking for something new to try? There are many restaurants Denton has to offer. There is something for everyone, from larger than life burgers to all-vegan options or even if you’re just looking for a midnight snack, Denton has it all. Here’s some of the Denton staples that everyone needs to try.

Ambro’s Tacos Y Más

Ambro’s Tacos Y Más offers a variety of Mexican dishes, including torts, quesadillas, and burritos that are made with organic and local products. Established in 2018, Ambro’s Y Más has grown into a Denton staple and is a great place to start if you’re looking for Mexican food near campus. If you’re missing home cooked Mexican meals, this also a great start. This restaurant is on the cheaper side of this list with places ranging from $5.99 to $10.99. It’s definitely an inexpensive option for students who are looking to eat outside of the dining halls but don’t have much to spend. The menu features plates like ropes, Gorditas, and tamales. Some of the carnes, meats, offered include bistec (steak), al pastor (marinated pork) and carnitas (fried pork). The menu also features elote, or corn in a cup, for those looking to find one nearby. You will also find various breakfast plates, including ranchero eggs, chilaquiles, and eggs a la Mexicana. Ambro’s Tacos Y Más also offers a variety of breakfast tacos, including chorizo & eggs, bacon & eggs and barbacoa.

Spiral Diner & Bakery

Thinking about trying out some vegan alternatives but don’t know where to start? Spiral Diner & Bakery offers many vegan options, from burgers and burritos to cake and ice cream. Some burger options include a patty melt and a bacon ranch cheeseburger. Some sandwiches, or sub, options include Philly cheese-steak, meatball sub, and chopped BBQ sandwich. With these options, it was a seamless transition. With two more locations in the DFW area, Spiral Diner & Bakery advocates for the non-profit organization “Mercy for Animals” and promotes a meat-free diet. This restaurant is a little bit more expensive when it comes to their meals, ranging from $9.99 to $13.99. If you’re looking to try vegan alternatives then Spiral can be a great place to start with a not-too-bad price. Desserts can also be sold by the dozen but that will cost you a bit more than other places.

Gyro 360 Mediterranean

Gyro 360 Mediterranean gives you the option to choose from a selections of sandwiches or make your own bowls, all made from scratch, and with such a chill environment, it’s a great place to stick around chat. Some of the sandwiches include the Spicy 360, a personal favorite, and “The OG” original gyro. You can also find falafel, baklava and feta fries on the menu and if you’re looking for something different, there are off menu items at the restaurant to choose from. Some desserts offered are the honey baklava, made with honey, almonds and walnuts, and the baklava roll. This restaurant isn’t too bad when it comes to the cost of the meal. The sandwiches, bowls and salads range from $6.99 to $9.99. It wouldn’t hurt trying something new with those prices, especially if you’re on a budget.

Juicy Pig

Juicy Pig Barbecue has your fix for Texas-style BBQ and all the sides that come with it. With the brisket being the most popular, it’s a must-do. And don’t forget to order the smocked mac ‘n’ cheese. This restaurant is also medium priced and won’t hurt your wallet too bad. Half a pound of meat can range from $7.95 to $10.95 depending on what you order. When it comes to plates, prices can range from $8.95 to $35 and sides can range from $2 to $9. Juicy Pig also offers sandwiches that can range from $6 to $8. This restaurant also offers spuds. Some of the spuds offered include the Big Bad Baker, includes all fixings plus the choice of two meets, the Brick House spud, plus all the fixings and one choice of meat, and the Straw house spud, which only includes all the fixings. Being a big fan of Texas-style BBQ, this is the place to be!

LSA Burger Co. offers a variety of gourmet style burgers while paying tribute to all the Texas musical legends. Of course, a restaurant with such high energy needs great burger to accompany it! Some of the burgers on the menu are named after Texas music legends, like the Chili Willie for example, which comes with Texas chili and Serrano peppers. Other burgers include the Ready Freddie, comes with bacon and grilled onions, the Stevie, comes with blue cheese dressing and bacon, and the Psychedelic, which comes with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss. Along with the larger than life burgers, you can find classics, like the brisket queso and chili cheese fries. These burgers can also be a bit pricey but you’ll be getting a lot of food, trust me it’s a lot. While this restaurant is on the more expensive side of this list, it’s honestly a fun place for everyone to enjoy, I mean, it’s burgers c’mon! For those who don’t want a burger, there is something for you too! It’s a great place to try if you’re on the square looking for a late-night place to eat and to enjoy some live music.

Dix Coney Island

Dix Coney Island is a diner-style restaurant that offers a variety of classic dishes, including coneys, hamburgers and subs. This diner also serves various breakfast options while also having extended hours if you are ever looking for a midnight snack. This places makes a great post-study session and requires a restaurant that is open after midnight. There are various options on the menu but the breakfast options are the standouts anytime of the day. Breakfast plates are offered, like breakfast tacos and omelettes. Dix Coney Island also joins the moderately prices club with several plates being under $15. It’s a great place on the square where anyone can find something they like on the menu. The appetizers include the must-do’s like mozzarella cheese sticks and onion rings, then there is the chili cheese fries, a personal favorite.
