5 Skincare Products That Will Change Your Life

You just have to try these skincare products! Whether you’re looking for a self-care day or a whole new skincare routine, these products will help you on your journey.

1. French Green Clay

Don’t you hate it when you go to pick out a face mask and it turns out that you can’t pronounce any of the ingredients or (worse) it has alcohol in it? Avoid the nasty ingredients and stick to a natural product like french green clay. French green clay is known to absorb oils and toxic substances on your skin as well as draw out any impurities. It also helps to stimulate the skin, which means that it’s good for treating blemishes and overly oily skin. Pick up some french green clay from your local natural beauty supply store or health food store and mix clay with just enough water to form a smooth paste. Try starting with two parts clay mixed with one part water and adjust the ratio of clay to water as desired. Use as a weekly treatment or every now and again to feel the benefits!

2. Shea Butter Lotions

Shea butter is listed as an ingredient on so many moisturizing products and for good reason! Shea butter is ridiculously good as moisturizing skin and repairing your skin’s natural moisture barrier. It has high concentrations of fatty acids and vitamins that help soften skin. It’s anti-inflammatory properties also make it a favorite for those looking to condition, soothe, and tone their skin. Try making a batch of whipped shea butter moisturizer for face and body by mixing 1/2 cup shea butter with 1/4 cup avocado or olive oil. Melt the shea butter in a double boiler with the oil. Once combined, leave in the freezer until it’s hard around the edges and soft in the middle. Stir and beat with an electric hand mixer until fluffy. Store in a mason jar and use daily on face and body!

3. Avocado Oil

You might think that adding oil to skin that’s already way too oily is counterintuitive. However, skin that isn’t moisturized well can often become oily. If the skin gets too dry, it might overproduce oils to compensate for those skin care products you’re using that are stripping your skin of its valuable oils. To help your oily skin, you might want to moisturize. Avocado oil contains vitamins E and A to help feed your skin and hydrate it too. It’s also incredibly versatile and super cheap for what you can substitute it for. Use it on its own as a makeup remover, mix it with shea butter to make a lotion, or use it on your face by itself as a moisturizer. Use it sparingly – your skin can only absorb so much!

Bonus: use on the ends of your hair to moisturize and nourish your hair.

4. Rosewater

Rosewater is honestly the most life-changing skincare product I have ever encountered. I seriously did not think that my face could ever look like it belonged in a skin care ad, but after using rosewater my face has been so glowy and clear that I feel like I could be the poster girl for Proactive (nevermind the fact I’m not famous). Rosewater has anti-inflammatory benefits which means it’s perfect for treating acne, mild eczema, and redness due to irritation. It also can help balance skin pH, provides antioxidants, and can hydrate as well. Truly, it is the miracle product. Live your best life by applying rosewater to your face after cleansing and before moisturizing as a toner twice a day.

5. Activated Charcoal

You’ve probably lived through the fad of using those peel-off charcoal masks to remove blackheads. Unfortunately, those masks can be abrasive and damaging to the surface of the skin and only remove the surface of blackheads, meaning that it’s not really addressing the root of the issue. Those blackheads will come back! However, activated charcoal can be really good for the skin as it acts as a magnet for dirt and oil, drawing out impurities. Use it as a face mask by mixing 1 tbsp activated charcoal and 1/2 tbsp bentonite clay with just enough rosewater to form a paste. Spread all over your face or just on your T-zone and wash off after 15 minutes with a cloth. Enjoy your clear skin!
