20 Signs You Are A SUNY Cortland Student

There are just some characteristics that make it obvious you’re a student at SUNY Cortland. Whether you were here for one semester or four years, you can agree that everyone knows you are a SUNY Cortland student if…

1. Your wardrobe is mainly made up of SUNY Cortland apparel.

This is the best way to show your Red Dragon Pride. From sweatshirts, countless t-shirts, sweatpants, hats and jackets; the college store always has awesome new apparel! It is completely normal to wear something Cortland every day of the week. The college store comes out with Cortaca, Christmas and Saint Patrick’s day themed Cortland apparel too!

2. You can’t help but get excited when you see little kids running around!

As a school full of education majors, SUNY Cortland has a daycare on campus. There is no better way to brighten your day than seeing a group of little kids amongst college students, and it makes you wish that you could go back to being little and stress free!

3. You consider Cortaca a holiday.

Every SUNY Cortland student knows that Cortaca is the “biggest little game in the nation” and is easily one of the best things about being a Red Dragon. The Cortaca experience is one you will never forget – especially since Cortland is on a 7 year winning streak! Let’s hope that 2017 will be another winning year!

4. Neubig omelettes are a regular part of your diet.

Eggs to order at Neubig are the best breakfast option on campus. You can have your eggs any style and there’s a variety of toppings to choose from. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and Neubig omelettes are the best part of breakfast!

5. You are ALWAYS ready for snow.

I thought I knew what snowstorms were, and then I came to Cortland. During the winter months it is very unlikely that you will see a day without snow, so come prepared with snow boots and heavy winter jackets. Comfy sweaters and big scarves are the best to stay warm during blizzards! Nothing is better than waking up to an email saying that classes are cancelled due to snow.

6. All of your Dining Dollars are used at Hilltop.

Hilltop dining is the go-to spot on campus when you get tired of dining hall food. They have the best wraps and sandwiches along with a taco bar on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Just be careful because Hilltop will definitely make you go through your dining dollars fast!

7. Calios is your go-to late night food.

Whether you need a snack to get you through a late night of studying or are STARVING after a night out, Calios always hits the spot. They have every kind of calzone to satisfy your cravings. You can never go wrong with a buffalo chicken calzone, and they even have dessert calzones for your sweet tooth!

8. You can always count on Nancy at Bistro to brighten your day.

Having Nancy swipe you into Bistro is the equivalent to hitting the jackpot when you’re having a bad day. She always has a smile and a “how are you sweetie” waiting for you. Every SUNY Cortland student loves Nancy!

9. 2 words. Bistro Cookies.

Bistro cookies are everyone’s favorite dessert option and they are almost as good at home made cookies! They’re irresistible when eating at Bistro – you can’t help but eat one (or maybe two) before you leave.

10. Finals week is stressful, but SUNY Cortland helps you through it!

During finals week, there are dogs that you can pet and play with in Corey Union! Playing with dogs is an awesome way to de-stress – this past finals week there was also massage chairs and an oxygen bar!

11. You see Domino’s delivery drivers at least three times each day.

Along with Calios, Domino’s is another one of SUNY Cortland students’ favorite late night snacks – because who doesn’t love pizza?! There is always at least one driver on campus, and as soon as one leaves another one arrives!

12. On breaks, you count down the days until you return to Cortland.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing that compares to the feeling of your own bed and home cooked meals but after being home for a few days you will miss Cortland! It becomes your second home and although being at college does involve a lot of school work, there is nothing better than being independent and being with your best friends all the time.
