Sex Edu

Whether it’s your freshmen year or not, it’s time to discuss the pink elephant of sorts in the room, sex. If you weren’t really ever exposed to it before, sex is a topic that comes up often in college . The one thing I can tell you is educate yourself.  If you’re new to the whole realm of sex, it can be overwhelming and nerve racking, especially if you want to fit in. You shouldn’t worry, most of your friends aren’t as experienced as they would like you to think.

Most colleges have pamphlets and free condoms available for students and you SHOULD NOT feel weird about going there to get them. If you do feel weird about going to health services, or if you go to one of the few schools that don’t supply their students with free condoms and you can’t get to a store, you can always order them online from a trusted source such as LuckyVitamin  and have them shipped directly to you. There should never be an excuse not to protect yourself or someone else that you are hooking up with.

College is a time to experiment, we all know that, but it’s not a time to be dumb or careless.  As quoted from the hangover “Remember what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Except for herpes. That shit’ll come back with you” Herpes is one of several sexually transmitted diseases that you’ll have for life, so be careful and protect yourself.  Even if you aren’t having sexual intercourse you can still contract a sexually transmitted infection, which is one mistake that many beginners make. Make sure to speak with your partner and always be safe no matter what sexual act you are engaging in.

As well, there is nothing wrong with abstaining. In your life after college, you may look back and  be happy that you did not partake. Don’t ever do something you aren’t comfortable with or feel you aren’t ready for yet.  As cliche as it sounds, if someone really cares for you , they won’t make you do something that you don’t want to do.

Planned Parenthood  suggests practicing safer sex which would include only having one partner and using condoms or other forms of birth control, such as the depo shot or the pill. Whatever method of protection that you choose, remember that if  there is even a small chance that your partner has something or is sleeping with other people, it’s not worth your health to not use a condom.   Besides STI’s, another side effect of unprotected sex is . . . .  dun dun dun a baby. The pull out and pray method is not a trusted form of birth control and it’s not worth all the worry. Ladies, if you are on the pill, set a reminder on your phone at the same time every day so you remember to take it You won’t ever have to freak out worrying if you took it or not. Do it at the same time every day (like you should be doing) and you won’t have to think twice about it.

Sex can be fun and exciting, which is how most people should look at it if you take the right steps to protect yourself and your partners. Don’t let one careless night out change the rest of your life, and girls it’s not always the guys job to bring condoms. So, if you think you’re going to hook up with someone that night, pack them in your clutch before you leave just in case, even if you don’t use them one of your friends might be in need.
