How To Seriously Master The Edgy Style

So you want to pull off that coveted edgy style, donned by the likes of Cara Delevingne, Kylie Jenner and Rhianna…but aren’t really sure where to start. No worries, I’ve got you covered. Follow these 7 easy tips and you’ll not only pull off that alluringly edgy look, you’ll seriously master it (and create some major outfit envy).

Leather is always a good choice.

When it doubt, add leather (and yes I mean faux leather, people). A leather jacket, leather boots, leather leggings, a damn leather dress – thanks to it’s bold appearance, the addition of this material just screams edgy.

The right pair of shoes create instant edgy style.

No matter what outfit you’re wearing; from a grunge-inspired floral summer dress, to distressed cutoffs and an over-sized tee; add a pair of Chucks, Dr. Martins or combat boots to make your edgy look complete.

Steal from your boyfriend’s closet.

Seriously. If you have access to a male’s wardrobe, use it to your advantage in recreating the edgy style (or at least use it to get a little inspiration). Flannels, beanies, over-sized tees; all great options to pull together a gritty chic ensemble.

Black is your new favorite color.

All black…all day, errr day. When it comes to perfecting the edgy style, you MUST find a new appreciation for this somber color. A matte black manicure, black high-wasited dungarees, a vintage black choker, or a full-on black-on-black-on-black getup: you’re halfway there to mastering that edgy style.

The bigger the tear, the edgier the look.

I’m talking about that distressed denim. Really hone in on creating an edgy vibe with tattered jeans – the more rips, cuts and fringe, the more bad ass you seem.

Details are important.

When it comes to accessorizing your edgy style, think minimal. Since this style is a bit on the harsher side, you don’t want to overdo it with jewelry. Bold, chunky rings are okay, but necklaces should be kept basic, if anything at all. Don’t be afraid, however, to top your outfit off with a simple, black hat and black-as-night sunglasses.

Perfect the “messy hair, don’t care” look.

Nothing alludes edgy more than an “I don’t care what you think” attitude. And how do you successfully pull that off? Well, undone, tousled hair is a good way to start. Complete the look with a bounty of confidence and off you go – the epitome of edgy style.
