5 Reasons Why I Chose To Go To The University Of Florida

mm

It’s around that time of the year when colleges are sending out their admission decisions to every high school senior. This time can be so stressful and full of indecisiveness and I know that for a fact because I went through the same thing just last year. The best advice I could give you is to just follow your heart.  It’s a little corny but there’s so much truth to the cliché phrase. I followed my own advice my senior year and it led me to the University of Florida which was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I am only a freshman and my experience at UF has already been so worthwhile and fulfilling. Here are just 5 of the reasons why I chose to go to the University of Florida and become a Gator!

1. UF has an endless amount of opportunities for everyone.

#ItsGreatToBeAFloridaGator because there is a place on campus for everyone! Attending a new university can be a nerve racking process because the struggle to find your place at such a large university is real. Let me tell you…the University of Florida has hundreds of student organizations that cater to any passion or hobby that you can dream of. If you are thinking about applying for an internship, scholarship, or a study abroad program then you don’t have to look too far because the University of Florida is always informing its students about the next big opportunity that anyone can take advantage of. (PSA to all Gators: Read your Gator Times!) I found out really fast during my fall semester of my freshman year that this school really does want its students to be the best they can be.

2. The College of Journalism and Communications.

Towards the end of my senior year of high school I figured out that I wanted to attend UF’s J school. The University of Florida has a very reputable school of journalism and communications and I wanted to learn from the best! The CJC takes pride in its students and I love that they care about its students so much.

3. The school spirit!

I have always had a sense of pride when it comes to my high school but after experiencing a whole football season at the University of Florida I can say that the amount of pride for my university has increased so much! The fact that at every game we all put our arms around each other [strangers too] and sing “We Are The Boys From Old Florida” makes you feel at home in the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium! Not only does football season make you so proud to be a Florida Gator, but everyone on campus does as well. I’m talking about the students and the faculty. When I walk around campus I can tell people are genuinely happy to be here by the smiles on their faces as I walk by. I am being so serious…I’ve never seen so many people smiling for no reason! Just being around this type of positivity will help you feel like you made the right decision to attend the University of Florida.

4. It’s a big public university.

I love the atmosphere of a big school and big campus. I feel like there is always something new to try out and people to meet when you are walking to class or headed to the Reitz Union for lunch. I know that large schools are a turn off for some people but I honestly believe there are a lot more pros than cons when deciding if a public university is right for you. I liked that UF had more opportunities and networking capabilities because of how large of a school it is. But most of all I love that I can see a different face and know that person most likely comes from a background that is so different from my own just because I know that this school is pretty diverse.

5. The University of Florida is the perfect distance from home!

If you couldn’t already tell, I love new places and new atmospheres. I knew that I wanted a new experience for college and since the University of Florida is 5 hours away from my home I knew that it was perfect for me. I love that I can experience the culture of a new city and its inhabitants that is completely different from what I am used to. However, I also knew that it wouldn’t be a huge hassle to go back home to spend time with my family during Thanksgiving or Christmas breaks.
