Being skinny has become a topic that is hurting our society. To have a specific type of body based on what society thinks does happen to ruin the way we feel about ourselves in a way that we can’t even imagine. Being fit is not the problem, being TOO skinny is. Here are 10 reasons why being skinny won’t make you happy.
1. If you think skinny means healthy… think again.
We are taught at a very young age that to be skinny means that you are “healthy”. In a way, it may be true in the sense that being obese is a health risk, but to be skinny also has it’s risks. Not gaining enough nutrition can have its issues. What it comes down to is that you need to eat to live in a functional manner. If you don’t take the time to have meals that fuel your body and your mind you can expect that your days will be filled with exhaustion. You will not have the energy to do the things you want to. Leading you to feel depressed and isolated.
2. Who are you trying to be skinny for?
Think about why you want to lose weight. Is it because YOU want to, or is it because you think that being skinny will get you that guy you want? Or that job? Or those friends? Whatever it may be, think hard and long about why you want to be skinny. Sometimes it’s the way someone else made you feel about yourself that makes you want to rethink who you are.
If you feel that you need to be skinny to have what you don’t have, then you need to re-evaluate your values. Friends should accept and love you for you, getting a job should be based on your skills, and the guy you like will be the one if accepts all of you for just being you. Don’t look at what society expects you to be, but who you want to be.
3. What about being fit? How does that feel?
Being on a fitness journey is truly an incredible thing. You get to learn about yourself every day. You get to see what works for you and what doesn’t. The most important thing is you get to find out is how your body works. If you take the time to exercise and eat healthily, you learn that being healthy is a lot more rewarding than being skinny. You feel strong in who you are. You feel confident. When you take care of yourself you realize that you are creating respect for yourself that you always wanted.
Let’s say you get to the weight of what you would like to be. You restricted your caloric intake, exercise intensely and feel that you have achieved your goal. Now what? The maintenance of keeping up with being skinny will be what you are always striving for. You will always have to eat less and feel that your relationship with food is not your friend. Wouldn’t you want to enjoy your life more by eating foods that are rich in goodness?!
5. Being skinny can become your life.
If all you have on your mind is to be skinny, it will drive you nuts. Being skinny is NOT everything, but unfortunately for many of us, it can control who we are. When you start focusing so hard on how to be skinny you start losing what is important. Family, friends, your life’s purpose is all-important areas that we can’t pay attention to properly if we are so focused on being skinny. Again, the question comes down to, who are you trying to be skinny for?
6. Confidence is not expected
Confidence is something we all really want and as much as we want to believe that by being thin, we will create that fantasy that ponders in our heads it’s not exactly the truth. We expect that when we achieve our goal weight, we will gain respect from the world that we think we deserve and that just isn’t reality. We have to work on ourselves to love ourselves. We can’t expect others to love us if we don’t love who we are. Take the time to learn about who you are and what you want out of life.
7. Happiness is not a guarantee
If you expect to be happy when you are skinny, then you might want to rethink that thought. Happiness might come with achieving your weight loss goals, but you will soon realize that that feeling will not last.
In fact, being too skinny might even make you feel worse about yourself and self-conscious of what others may think of you. Or you may even be let down by the expectations you put on yourself of what will come if you are skinny. Realize that happiness comes from within. You must love yourself so much and be happy with where you are at at the moment. Loving the journey is what it’s all about.
8. More colds
Getting sick will be a common issue that will occur if you are too skinny. Your immune system isn’t working as it normally would if you unhealthy skinny. You will be prone to getting sick faster than someone who is at a healthy weight. Your body has the nutrients it needs when it is healthy and has to ability to fight off the viruses that come your way.
9. Unhealthy look
Beauty starts from within. By eating healthy foods, exercising accordingly, getting enough sleep, and drinking water will give you the glow you are looking for. If you are not eating enough, sleeping enough, etc. you will start to notice that you don’t look so healthy and others will too. If you want to look and feel your best always then you need to take care of yourself first.
10. Fertility problems
Now, this may be a subject that is for you down the road in life if you looking to start a family. If you are wanting to one day have babies, you must realize that eating healthy will help you create children properly. If you don’t provide your body the nutrients it needs, then many things that you don’t want to happen will occur such as not being able to be fertile, miscarriages, and many more terrifying circumstances. Be good to your body, especially if one day your dream is to start a family.
