10 Quotes You Should Live Your Life By

There aren’t any rules to life, you do as you please, it’s your life after all. However, sometimes, you lose direction. You lose focus on what’s important. So to get you back on track to being the best version of yourself, where you pursue and achieve your goals and dreams, here are 10 quotes to live by.

Think about the ladies sat on that roller coaster. Do you want to live like the women on the first row, or the third row? Laughing and enjoying the ride or disapproving of it? I know which I’d prefer.

1. “You cannot control everything that happens to you; you can only control the way you respond to what happens. In your response is your power.”

We can all be a bit of control freak, if things don’t go our way we aren’t happy. But we can’t control everything! It’s impossible. You can try your best, but it will be a waste of energy.

So control the one thing you do have power over, your response to the situation.

Someone breaks up with you? Don’t cry, don’t shout at them, handle it like a boss. Not everything requires a hysterical reaction. Learn to control yourself and you’ll have more control over life and the situation around you.

2. “You choose the life you live. If you don’t like it, it’s on you to change it because no one else is going to do it for you.” – Kim Kiyosaki

Stereotypes are a bitch. There is a certain type of behaviour expected of us, but who says we have to fit into that mould? Be a biker on a pink bicycle with flowers. Be happy in who you are, you don’t have to fit a mould.

Or if you aren’t happy in the way you live your life, change it. It is your responsibility to make yourself happy, so get on with it.

You will be happier with a healthier body? Go to the gym, no one is going to exercise for you. You want to be smarter? Then pick up the books and get revising, get the grades you want in life.

This is a great quote to live by in my opinion because it teaches you responsibility and independence.

3. “If you really want to do something you’ll find a way, if you don’t you’ll find an excuse.” – Jim Rohn

If there is something you really want, chase after it. Make it happen. Whether its a goal, a dream, or a girl your really like. If you put in the effort, it will happen. You just need to try.

If you live by this quote it will demonstrate how important something is to you, helping you narrow down your list of priorities. It’ll make you re-evaluate everything, question everything you do.

So get evaluating your life.

4. “In every day, there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact.” – Les Brown

I like this quote. I see it as you should make sure your day positively impacts others. Take those 1,440 minutes and use them to make as many people smile, laugh and happy as you can. Because a positive impact on others is a positive impact on yourself.

But you could interpret it as making sure what you do with your day has a purpose, that it will impact your own positively. Say you spend the day reading your textbooks rather than playing games so that you can get a good grade on your text coming up.

Either way, this is a great quote to live by as it teaches you to make the most of each day.

5. “It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously, that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case you fail by default.

There is a shorter version of this quote by Oscar Wilde, ‘To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.’

To live by either quote is to realise that to live fully you have to take risks. You have to fail to succeed. You have to love everything you do.

If you go from one day to the next doing the same routine, waiting to go to bed to do the same again the next day, then you are existing rather than living.

To live is to laugh and love (as cheesy as that quote is, it makes sense). If you don’t remember any of the other quotes, keep in mind this quote to live by. Do everything with love and passion, don’t live so cautiously that you forget to actually live.

6. “It’s important to make someone happy, and it’s important to start with yourself.”

Will Smith recently said that it’s not his responsibility to make his wife happy, you make yourself happy first and you and your partner come together to be happy together.

Of course, you partner increases that happiness, but they are not solely responsible for you being happy. And I feel like this a quote more people need to live by. You need to work on your own happiness, you need to work on yourself first.

It’s great making others happy, but what use is it when you, yourself is miserable. You aren’t living their life, you are living your own, so make yourself happy before others. This way, you’ll be able to make them even happier because you’ll be at the same energy level as them.

7. “If you are honest, truthful, and transparent, people trust you. If people trust you, you have no grounds for fear, suspicion or jealousy.” – Dalai Lama

This is the best quote to live by. Basically, don’t lie. When you lie, you need to remember what you’ve told to each different person and it all becomes very exhausting keeping up with all those lies.

Make life simpler for yourself. Stick to telling the truth and then you’ll never have to rack your brain for what is the right answer.

And as the quote say, people will trust you when you tell the truth. You can live a more peaceful life knowing that others aren’t out to get you, you don’t need to fear repercussions, or any hatred from people.

A truthful life is an easy life.

8.“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” – Vivian Greene

This is one of the more popular quotes to live by. In literal terms, dancing in the rain is great. You really shouldn’t wait for the storm to pass, get out there, use the thunder as drums and just dance.

In more metaphorical terms, don’t let the bad times overpower you and get you down. It sucks, it will always suck when you’re going through a rough time. But rather than just getting on with it like everyone tells you to do, embrace it.

Use the bad to empower you. Know that every day you fight is a day you get stronger, so by the time you come out the other end, you’ll be strong and fierce. A woman/man to be reckoned with.

So dance in the rain, let it teach you better ways in how to approach life. Use the rain to your advantage.

9. “To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.” —Eleanor Roosevelt

A logical quote, but easier said than done.

Treat everyone with kindness and love. Make a positive impact on their life. But using your head to handle yourself is tricky. We are not the best at being logical with ourselves, but with practice we can learn.

This quote doesn’t mean be cold with yourself, or at least I don’t think it does. I think it means you should always think about what you’re doing, how you think. Approach problems logically, don’t let you emotions over power you.

Like I said, easier said than done.

10. “Fear is a superpower. Fear can make you faster, and cleverer, and stronger. And… if you’re very wise and very strong, fear doesn’t have to make you cruel or cowardly. Fear can make you kind.” – Doctor Who

Not every quote is written by some old, wise person from history. This heartfelt speech from Clara to the Doctor imparts just as much wisdom as the Dalai Lama did.

Being scared doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In biology we learn that the fight or flight response actually saves our lives. So use it to our advantage. Use the rush of blood and quickened pulse to think faster, better and be stronger.

Fear isn’t bad, fear can be good. Fear can make you kind. We just have to embrace the feeling like everything else.

So there are 10 quotes to live by. Of course there are plenty more than 10, with billions of people through history, there have been so many words of wisdom passed on that it would be an infinite list. But they all come down to these basic quotes to live by:

One, live life to the fullest, live in the first row rather than the third.

Two, embrace every feeling, whether good or bad. Use them to your advantage.

And three, have a positive impact on others as well as yourself. Make sure you’re happy in everything you do.
