Pros And Cons Of A Standing Desk

Standing desks have become a new way to remain fit while at work. However, as with many new innovations, standing desks are not superior to sitting desks in all areas. Here are a few pros and cons of a standing desk.

Con

I am not aware how much employers are willing to add to the cost of hiring a new employee. This means that if your job does not already have a standing desk, you may have to buy and pay for it yourself. A quick search on Google and a look at Amazon reveals that standing desks are not cheap. Some cost close to 100 dollars, while there are some that exceed even 200 dollars. This may put some people against the idea of buying a standing desk, and it is reasonable to do that. Why in the world would one pay for an object for work in which it makes it more difficult, instead of less, to relax and do your job. The hypocrisy of a standing desk is evident but, as with the American economic classes, it varies from person to person. If you are able to make 200 dollars in one hour of work, then a standing desk may seem like an opulent accessory to your job life. If not, I recommend staying with a desk and chair.

Pro

Common sense argues for the health benefits of standing chairs. Weight loss comes from physical exertion and lower calorie intake. No matter how small the physical exertion, if it is done with a lower amount of calories, weight loss will occur. This means that even standing for the whole day may help increase the amount of calories burned. In this way, standing desks seem to be able to help you with weight is and avoiding obesity. However, standing desks are not a real and complete substitute for dieting and exercise. Just studying seems to increase calorie loss minimally, and if diet and exercise do to accompany it, with loss may not be possible. If you are considering a standing desk, however, it is more likely that you are already exercising and dieting, since putting in effort in these areas does not seem as hard as having to stand all day at work.

Con

Standing desks are rather useless in the grand scheme of life, as many things are. The money spent on a standing desk can be used for many different things, such as rent, food, and child necessities. The cost of one standing desk can even be enough to pay for some length of time at a gym, which will help lose more calories than standing at job. There is also the stigma that comes with attempting to bring a change to an already set state of mind. Workers at many offices are already desperation at wasting their lives sitting at a desk and not bettering themselves. Acquiring a standing desk, even if it’s not even to show off, will very much anger your coworkers, who will see the standing desk as an attempt to show superiority despite not actually being any better. Still, this may not even be true. The only proof of this is a Family Guy episode where Peter is forced to buy a standing desk as a punishment and is made fun of by his co-workers. Still, men’s hats of change is a truth that you will do good to remember.

Pro

At least you are spending money on trying to better yourself. Many use money on foolish, dangerous, or meaningless things. At least standing desks are meant to help with your health, and if you have the money, why not splurge. Progress, no matter how small, is still progress.
