Prom hairstyles for short hair can be hard to do. Even if you go to a salon, sometimes you don’t always get the results you were looking for. For girls with short hair, this article is for you! This prom be sure to rock the night with your hairstyle making a statement!
1. Bobby Pin
I love this look, and the best part is, it is inexpensive and quick. With so many bobby pins to choose from, I would try to match the color to your dress. If your gown is blue, maybe choose sparkly silver or glittery gold pins. With a gel or mousse, create subtle waves and then pin a few pieces on one side using the bobby pins. This look is cute and modern!
2. Low Messy Bun
Despite the hair you have, this is a style that everyone can pull off. Especially if you are wearing a strapless dress, this hairstyle will show off your gown without taking too much attention from the rest of your outfit and accessories.
3. Low Side Pony
Similar to the low messy bun, the low side ponytail is absolutely trendy! You can play around and adjust how you want it to look, and pull some hair out for a messy and trendy look. Top it off with some dangly earrings!
4. Side Waterfall Braid
This hairstyle is my all-time favorite. Instagram approved, you will be the center of attention at this year’s prom!
I love this trend, and you’ll feel like its 2003 again. Seriously, this is such a cute style! Classy, trendy and modern, this look will have you turning heads. You can stick them in the back, on the side, or all over your hair.
6. One Braid At Top
When we think of trendy hair, this one automatically comes to mind. Easy to do, this hairstyle will take no more than 5 minutes. Perfectly paired with waves or curls, this will be the hairstyle for you at prom 2020!
7. Loose Beach Waves
I don’t think this hairstyle will ever not be in style. When it comes to beach waves, skin tone, and hair type is out of the question, it will look good on you, I promise! Relatively easy to create, this hairstyle will take no more than 15- 20 minutes of your time. Use a curling wand for the best results, and don’t forget to use a heat protectant!
8. Waterfall Braid Bun
This hairstyle may combine all of the above. However, it is still trendy! There are plenty of ways to make sure you achieve this look, but it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes. Make it as messy or neat as you want, and don’t forget to throw on a necklace!
9. Straight Hair
This hairstyle for prom will never be out of style. Straight hair may be seen as too common, but really, it looks classy and simple. For prom this year, if you have a super creative dress (or even if you don’t), don’t be afraid to rock this classic look.
10. Tight Curls
Whatever your favorite style, tight curls will always look good on short hair. Think of Marilyn Monroe. This trend will take no more than 30 minutes, and for long-lasting results, apply a finishing spray!
11. Twist Back
This is another timeless look. The twist back hairstyle just involves you taking the first small sections of hair, and twisting it back, securing it with a few bobby pins. Not only will this look make you look classy, but people will think it took a lot longer than it really did.
12. Double Trouble
This next prom hairstyle for short hair is doubling the braid on one side of the head or both. You can secure it with a bobby pin, and put hair over it, or allow it to be visible as is. Very classy and modern!
Depending on how short your hair is, the pixie cut is absolutely adorable. Many celebs are rocking it, too! Spring into 2020 with this fresh look. This is definitely one of the best prom hairstyles for short hair.
14. Bangs Only
This next hairstyle is brining only the front bangs back, think of the Snookie poof. It may seem so 2009, but trust me, it will look trendy for prom!
15. Half Bun
This style is super cute and super easy. All that you do is take the first half of your hair, and instead of securing it, style the hair into a bun, on the top of your head.
No matter your age, style, or preference, any formal occasion is allowed a braid. Braids look cute no matter what, and with any hair length you can pull it off.
17. Head Wear Perfect For Shrot Hair
Similarly to number 16, we’re never too old for a headband. This fashion statement goes a long way, and if you are looking for a boho look, Francesca’s store in the mall has a huge selection of trendy headbands and wraps.
The fishtail hairstyle is adorable, and so in style. You can do this one of two ways: Braid the bottom of your half-up hair, or braid the entire hair to the side. This style may take up to 20 minutes, but the results are worth it!
19. Bottom Only
This next hairstyle for prom is the bottom of your hair curled, giving it a little kick. The way to do this is literally by curling the ends of your hair. It gives your style some flare!
20. Soft Loop
For prom hairstyles, everyone has a different taste, and that’s ok. If you like soft styles and pastel colors, this look is for you. It is using the half up trend, but instead of making a bun with that hair, you just create a soft loop.
21. Braided Headband
This hairstyle will have everyone at prom green with envy. Beautiful, and incredibly unique, this trend may take some time, though. Watch a tutorial for the best results!
22. Tight Curls Plus Braid
For prom hairstyles, stand out with this pretty and feminine look. With gorgeous results, it is worth every second of time-consuming preparation.
23. Hair Wrap Around
Even if you have short hair, you should still be able to perfect this style! The steps are simple. Style your hair in a ponytail as you normally would, and then take a thick piece of hair and wrap it around where your hair would be secured with a hair tie. Making the hair wrap conceal the hair tie, it creates a classy but messy trend.
24. Thick Waves
This hairstyle will go great with shiny, soft hair. For the best results, use a deep conditioner or hair mask prior to styling, giving your hair a shiny appearance. Thick waves are different than beachy waves and give your hair a healthy-looking glow.
25. Messy Hair, Side Braid
Any hairstyle with a braid is automatically a little more classy, in my opinion. Something about the side braid adds a whole new level to the look!
26. Add Flowers
Even though with this style you may be thinking about a wedding, adding flowers is a completely acceptable look for prom. Add them to a bun, updo, or hair down. This is one of our favorite prom hairstyles for short hair.
27. Mousse Up That Short Hair
For prom hairstyles, re-think your normal locks with a wavy hairstyle using a thick mousse. The good news is that mousse will stick for hours, allowing you to have all the fun you want and your waves to stay in place!
28. Double Braid, Double Bun
This hairstyle looks exactly how it sounds. Think of space bun hair, and it is the same but with braids going down. Super cute, and super trendy!
29. ‘Heart’ Shaped Braid
This hairstyle is a little bit different. It is literally in the shape of a heart, using thicker and more dimension in the braid.
30. Loosely Used Bobby Pin
Last but not least, a messy look for prom hairstyles will never go out of style. Pinback certain parts of your hair, so you can keep your hair down but pin it out of your face too. This is one of the best prom hairstyles for short hair.
