10 Popular Ways To Overcome Writer’s Block

As a student, author, or technical writer many people are overcome by writer’s block. There are several ways to overcome writer’s block that can help clear the mind, so it can freely be creative. Try the following to overcome writer’s block.

1. Take a Walk

If you are staring at a blank computer screen and you feel like your eyes are bugging out of your sockets, then it is time to get up and take a walk. Taking a walk will help clear your thoughts and the fresh air will stimulate your senses, which will help your creative juices flow smoothly.

2. Try changing where you write

If you constantly write while you are at home in your office, then try writing at a local coffee shop while enjoying a latte. You could also change where you write in the house, which will give you a change of scenery and help your mind to be sharp.

3. Listen to music while you write

If you spice up the playlist of music while you are writing this can help to relax you enough to get your imagination working better. Overcome writer’s block by letting your imagination carry you away through the music flowing out of your earphones.

4. Try brainstorming ideas in bullet points

This exercise will allow you to just scribble down whatever comes to your mind first in bullet points, which can be expanded later. To overcome writer’s block this exercise is the key to clearing your mind and letting your artistic energy work for itself. Allow yourself time to scribble down ideas as they come or keep a small notepad with you at all times in case the creative energy hits you out of nowhere.

5. Call an old friend or a family member

To overcome writer’s block calling an old friend or a close family member can help by talking about good memories and the old days, which can also free your mind enough to let your creativity come to life again. You’d be surprised at what having a short conversation with someone you care for and trust can do to help you overcome writer’s block.

6. Read a book

Yes, it sounds so simple, but you’ll be surprised to find out that reading one of your favorite author’s novels can help your imagination flow freely and help to overcome writer’s block and the issues related to having writer’s block.

7. Try to eliminate any distractions that are making you lose focus

If the dog keeps barking and running around with a squeaky toy in his mouth while you are working on writing, then try to move or put the dog outside to help you focus on your writing. We all have numerous distractions that keep us from focusing on the tasks we need to accomplish, so remove them the best you can to overcome writer’s block.
