5 Of Our Favorites From The Lollapalooza Lineup

With Shaquille O’Neal and Donald Glover as scheduled artists for this summer’s Lollapalooza lineup, who should you go see? Lolla is a sweaty, baseball dirt on my shoes and butt, the nation’s best skyline and Lakeview, each year is different, musical festival feeling. You will naturally find your way to any of the headliners (Chainsmokers, Childish Gambino, Twenty One Pilots, and Ariana Grande), so we’ve chosen 5 artists that you need to see at least one of. Here are  5 of our faves that aren’t headliners.

1. Meek Mill

As Meek Mill takes the stage on Sunday, those in attendance will be in the presence of a modern day civil rights activist. Aside from receiving Billboard’s Top Rap Album of the Year in 2016, he is widely revered as an activist in his own right. Upon his release from prison in April of 2018, Meek Mill took to speaking out against the prejudice he believes the criminal courts system exudes on lower class minorities. Today, he is teamed up with fellow rapper Jay-Z to help give those a voice that do not. As one of today’s hottest and most socially relevant rappers, Meek Mill’s concert would surely not be one you regret attending.

2. Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves caught the eyes of millions with her Grammy Award-Winning Best Country Album of 2013 and most recently in 2019. If you haven’t listened to her hit “Rainbow” on her new album Golden Hour (2019), I’d recommend holding onto something because it has a tendency to lift you off your feet. Kacey Musgraves’ music is designed for her accompanying instruments to not compete with her voice, and it shows in the showcasing of her gorgeous voice in each and every song. Please don’t be avoid Kacey because she is a country star. I know of a certain artist that would never have started her “Love Story” with the world if it weren’t for her country roots.

3. Gary Clark Jr.

Check out Gary Clark Jr.’s front to Trump politics in his 2019 album This Land (2019). His music contains elements of Blues, Rock n’ Roll, R&B, and Hip-Hop. At the young age of 35, he has performed on stage with legends like B.B. King, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones. Gary Clark Jr. will be playing in an early evening slot at Lolla’s largest stage. This means if you are a fan, or are in the mood for some funky and relevant Rock ‘n Roll, you will be able to see his show up close and personal, without much effort to wiggle your way to the front.

4. Chelsea Cutler

You’ve heard her work in “The Shine” or in her 2017 breakthrough single “Your Shirt”. With over 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify, she offers her listeners heartfelt lyrics about romantic relationships. What makes her work so fresh is her utilization of subtle EDM beats that don’t make your ears cry. She will be performing at an area cropped out of a tree grouping, hidden from the main drag: an intimate setting to match her own music.

5. Gryffin

Oh, don’t say that! You def know Gryffin. Can you say tropical house? Cool, just checking. Gryffin’s tunes have been scientifically proven to inhibit driving performance, as the driver needs her other hand to pat on her leg or tap the dash to follow Gryffin’s the nicotine infused beats.

The Lollapalooza schedule this year is just like the several years’ before: amazing. Share with me below or on social media who you would see instead of our 5.
