Rainy days are the best days to lay in bed and watch movies for hours on end. Sometimes you might not be feeling up to going out and about and need to spend a gloomy day inside. If you’re feeling extra down, you’re probably looking for a good movie to get your mind of of things. Here are 5 movies to watch when you’re feeling down on a rainy day!
1. Mary Poppins
Nostalgia is one of the best healers on a gloomy mood, especially if you can sing along to the movie. Mary Poppins (1964), is a classic movie that will make everyone feel so much better.
The story of the Banks children and their practically perfect nanny, Mary Poppins, go on an adventure across the city of London with no shortage of penguins, magic, and chimney sweeps. If you have never seen the movie, you’re in for a magical ride!
If you have seen this movie, your mood will be picked right up as you sing and laugh along. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke are the most iconic duo, and you’ll definitely wish you were back in your childhood after watching the movie.
If you are a sucker for movies with sequels, don’t worry, Mary Poppins has got one! Just released in 2018, Mary Poppins Returns follows the magnificent nanny once again, this time trying to save the Banks’ family home. The songs in this movie will have you listening to the soundtrack for days.
Starring Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt, you’ll relive your childhood while also experiencing a new twist on the old classic. Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns will definitely make your day a little brighter.
2. Thor: Ragnarok
Sometimes when we’re feeling down, we just need a really good laugh. Thor: Ragnarok (2017) can provide all the laughs you need on a rainy day. Unlike most superhero movies, this movie brings an immense amount of humor, but an awesome plot as well.
Marvel Studios isn’t known for being overly funny, most of their movies are serious with a little humor tossed in there. Thor: Ragnarok has all the humor, with a little seriousness sprinkled in. Audiences raved about the movie when it came out, and Marvel fans even claim it’s one of the best movies they’ve seen from the studio.
The crude jokes and hilarious one-liners will have you cry-laughing in no time. You’ll forget your bad mood instantly after you put this movie on. Not only is the humor great, the storyline of the movie is also also awesome! We get to follow the mighty Thor along with the Hulk as they fight to save Asgard from Thor’s evil sister Hela.
Once the movie concludes you’ll want to give your TV a standing ovation. Lots of other Marvel movies will make you feel happy, but this one takes the cake for the ultimate mood booster.
3. To All The Boys I Loved Before
Sappy romance movies are never a good idea for a rainy day when you’re feeling blue. If you’re a sucker for some love, you’ll have to find a good rom-com to get your fix.
Netflix has a great selection of rom-com movies, but their original, To All The Boys I Loved Before (2018), will have your heart swelling by the time the credits roll.
The movie follows the story of Lara Jean, a high school girl who’s world gets flipped upside down when her little sister sends out letters she wrote to her childhood crushes. Thinking nothing of it, she falls into a fake relationship with Peter Kavinski, a boy she used to have feelings for. Chaos ensues and Lara Jean finds herself in a whirlwind of drama and romance.
Don’t worry about crying at the end of the movie, because they will be happy tears. You might feel down when you start watching the movie, but by the end you will never want to watch another romance movie again.
4. Finding Dory
If you’re feeling extra sad, you might need a little blue fish to tell you to “just keep swimming”. Disney’s Finding Dory (2016) is the movie for you. If you grew up watching Finding Nemo you’ll be shot back into your childhood after watching Finding Dory.
The movie follows Dory on her adventure to find her parents after their family got separated when she was just a baby. We get to meet all new characters like Hank and Bailey, as well as see Nemo and Marlin who everyone loves dearly.
This movie will lift your spirits right away and you’ll want to watch every Disney movie ever once you’re finished. It will take you on a fun adventure with an ending that will make your heart sore. I don’t think any movie in existence has a happier ending than Finding Dory.
5. The Fundamentals of Caring
Netflix has a knack for creating really interesting series and movies, especially in the sci-fi world, but The Fundamentals of Caring (2016) is a drama that will leave you in a puddle of happy tears.
