10 Items To Always Keep In Your Purse

It is great being a girl, as we can carry around numerous essentials in a purse in case of need! I must admit that it can be annoying at times. I sometimes wish I could leave the house with my keys and phone and be brave enough to venture out without a purse. Alas, I always feel I need a little bag, and in the end, it is a fashion accessory as well as something to transport essentials with us, in case of emergencies!

I remember as a little girl, my mom had a Mary Poppin’s style bag that would magically have everything you could ever dream of in it. A sewing kit in case of an emergency sewing situation? Check. Chocolate for that time you are craving something sweet? Check. A hairpin and hair tie case? Check. My mom was always well prepared in case of any eventuality, and I am so glad to be able to steal some of her habits. After all, you can never be too prepared!

1. Sunblock

Contrary to what most people may think, Sunblock is not something that is only required on summer holidays at the beach or pool. It is actually something that we need to apply every day and several times throughout the day. Personally, I like to apply a liquid physical sunblock containing zinc in the morning before I apply my makeup, and apply a sunblock powder throughout the day every two or three hours. A powder is perfect as it will not mess up your makeup. I also prefer to use an actual skincare or sunblock brand rather than a makeup brand as a lot of the makeup brand’s sunscreen levels are unregulated. This is a definite essential item to take with you and keep in your purse at all times.

2. Anti-bacterial Hand Gel

I love the invention of Anti-bacterial Hand Gel. Living in the city, we are often exposed to a whole host of invisible germs when taking public transportation or going to work or school. Anti-bacterial hand gel is a must-have for those moments where you cannot go to the bathroom to wash your hands. Some bathrooms also may have run out of hand soap, which is a sticky situation to be in. Antibacterial Hand Gel allows you to clean your hands of germs and bacteria no matter where you are.

3. Tissues

After years of voyaging out of the house without tissues, I finally learnt my lesson. Keeping a small Kleenex packet of tissues is something to definitely keep in your purse for those emergencies when you need to wipe up a mess or blow your nose. It is also handy in case anyone else around you may need a tissue too. I love being that organized girl who is super prepared whenever anyone asks me for a tissue. Why yes, I do have some! 🙂

4. Wet Wipes

Wet wipes may not be seen as an essential, however, I believe that it is an extremely important item to keep in your purse at all times. There are small options that will not take up much space that will help you to clean up in case you spill something on your clothes, your hands get sticky while eating your lunch or if you need to clean up any smudged makeup.

5. Portable Perfume

I believe carrying a small roll on or spray on perfume is a must have to keep in your purse at all times. It is extremely useful as the perfume you spray on in the morning will not have lasted until the end of the day. What if you have an impromptu meeting with your boss, a date or if you have to go to an unplanned event? Portable perfumes are extremely useful in order to smell good at all times.

6. A Tampon or Pad

This is definitely an essential item to keep in your purse at all times. You never know when you might need it, or, when a girlfriend or colleague may need it and the worst situation possible is to be caught without it! I think we can all agree that keeping a spare tampon or pad in your purse is definitely a great way to be prepared and reduce stress levels.

7. Lip Balm

Along with a small makeup bag for touchups throughout the day, I believe that lip balm is an essential product to always keep in your purse. Being out and about all day, your lips will require some moisture to keep them hydrated and luscious. You can choose from wearing a neutral lip balm or a tinted one to give your lips a pop of colour.

8. Hairbrush

I personally cannot leave the house without my hairbrush. I do feel that it is an essential item to keep in your purse to give your hair some touchups throughout the day. My hair personally has the tendency to entangle quite easily, and my hairbrush has been my saviour many a time.

9. Mints/Gum

Having a pack of mints or gum in your purse is definitely very handy. Not only does it taste good, but it will also freshen your breath and impress those around you.

10. A Pen

This item may be an overlooked item. I believe it is always important to keep a pen handy, despite the fact that we are generally glued to our phones at all times. You never know when you might need to note something down onto paper or fill in a form. It is definitely not wrong to be prepared in case of those eventualities!
