Inexpensive Hobbies You Should Definitely Look Into

So, I see you have a lot of free time on your hands and don’t know what to do with it. I also hear the wind coming out through your pockets as we speak. Fear not, dear friend! Here are a few inexpensive hobbies that’ll keep you busy and your bank account in the positives.

Photography

Photography is an amazing hobby to occupy your free time. Not only is it a beautiful hobby to practice, but it also comes at the low price of zero dollars! Before you begin to panic, yes, there is an inexpensive way to do photography. How you ask? From the same device that you have in your hand of course! (unless you’re on a computer, then that might be way harder). Your phone is plenty capable of capturing many amazing and captivating photos like that of a professional-grade camera. The only real work on your part is reading and gathering information or inspiration on how to capture your perfect photo. After that, all you have to do is pick up your phone and begin creating amazing pieces of artwork.

Journaling/Free Writing

You probably have a spare sheet of notebook paper and a pen lying around your house somewhere. If not, it would only cost you around $3 at your local supply store. Journaling is a perfect hobby if you’re passionate about expressing your thoughts in a more personal way. As an introvert and a more secluded person myself, I picked up creative writing as a hobby when I was younger and have planned on building a career around writing ever since. I found that it’s way easier expressing my thoughts in written words, whether that was through writing lyrics or a short story. It cost me little to nothing and I know that if it did me some good, this hobby would be helpful for others as well.

Video Creating

Let’s say you already have a hobby that you’re already pretty well off in and you want to show your creativity off visually. There are many different platforms such as YouTube, DailyMotion, and Vimeo that are all free to post your videos and enjoy yourself as a creative. This hobby is also pretty inexpensive because your phone camera can come into play here as well. You don’t need a fancy setup—unless you WANT a fancy setup— and it can also help you network and grow as a brand or whatever you decide to establish yourself as. However, a quick disclaimer: If your sole purpose is to ONLY make money from the content you create, this hobby may not be for you. While it’s free and easy to get into and yes you can make money from it, that will not come instantly from your first few videos. First of all, you’d need to grow a pretty big following and generate enough traffic for monetization to come along. Second, you have to create unique content that people will be interested to come back and watch. On the other hand, if you’re looking to share your creativity with the world and have fun, I believe video creating is a perfect hobby for you to jump into.

Video Gaming

Despite all the negativity surrounding this subject, video gaming is actually a very relaxing and soothing hobby. Well, I guess that would really depend on what game you play and if your team is trash or not. Anywho, with gaming platforms from PlayStation to Xbox, to complete PC gaming, many game developers offer free to play games that come at no cost to you. Furthermore, some games usually come at discounted prices during some holidays and special events. One free game I recommend playing is Paladins. Paladins is basically an Overwatch knockoff but contains many similar aspects and features found in Overwatch. I found that it is available for PlayStation and PC platforms so far, and it has consumed most of my life at the moment. Another free game that everyone should have heard of before is Fortnite. While I’m not particularly a fan of Fortnite, I admit that it is nicely put together for being a free game (with some paid features but that’s for you pay-to-wins to enjoy in your own time). If you think this is the hobby for you, I wish you well on your gaming adventure and remember: don’t spend too much time on the sidequest because most likely the reward isn’t worth it or you’ve already gotten it before :).

Exercising

Now, I know we’re doing a complete 180 spin from the last hobby, but we must think about all those active souls out in the world. Exercising can be beneficial to not only your general health but having it as a hobby may also change your lifestyle as a whole. Not to mention it’ll make your pockets happy because, despite the seemingly “cheap” prices the gym offers, you don’t have to go to a gym to exercise. Home exercising is not only free but it is also comfortable because you’re in the comfort of your own home without feeling the pressure of entering a space with other people. You don’t even have to be in your home to exercise for free. If you’re near a park, track, or just have a stretch of road in front of your house in general, you have a place to exercise. You don’t have to worry about burning a hole in your pocket, you’ll be too busy burning calories and getting fit!

Now that you have a few ideas on the different and FREE hobbies that are out there, it’s up for you to decide whether you’ll A: Waste a bunch of hard-earned money on a activity that you’ll fall out of love with quickly or B: Not spend a penny and have tons of fun creating a hobby that you can perfect and cherish for the rest of your life. Whatever you decide to do, make sure to have fun. Good luck!
