The winter months are some of the worst times for your hair, so knowing how to take care of your hair is especially important. Especially with my thick curly hair, I have to take extra care of my hair in the cold weather to ensure that my hair is moisturized and undamaged! To help you out with your hair, here are 5 ways to get the perfect hair in below zero temperatures!
Regular trims every 3-4 months are important to maintaining great hair and ensuring that all of the dead ends are gone! I would suggest getting a haircut right before the winter months and cutting off ALL the dead hair. It may seem daunting at first, but healthy hair makes for great hair!
With my type of hair, I live off of deep treatments and they are perfect to keep your hair protected in the cold weather. My favorites are Shea Moisture Raw Deep Treatment and Aussie’s 3 Minute Miracle. They get the job done and I can let them sit in my hair while I am doing laundry or watching Netflix. Perfect right?
By far the worst thing about the winter is the wind. Besides being ridiculously cold, it wreaks havoc on your hair. If I know I am going to be outside for a long period of time, I will bring a hat with me to protect my locks.
I know it might seem gross but you do not have to wash your hair everyday, and for some of us with hair similar to mine it may be the best thing for it. Not washing your hair makes sure that the hair retains its natural oils, meaning that it will be less dry. Try to plan it out so you don’t wash your hair on the days you plan on doing nothing, no one likes going outside with greasy hair. Batiste Dry Shampoo is an amazing option for keeping the grease out of your hair!
The winter months are the perfect time to put down the heat styling tools and embrace your natural hair. If you can’t quit cold turkey, save the flat iron and blow-dryer for the rare special occasion. Your hair will thank you.
