You may need to bake some banana bread or have a banana for your morning smoothie, so you buy the batch of green bananas anyway. No worries! Use these 5 tips on how to ripen your bananas quick and easy.
1. Don’t separate them.
A lot of people think that taking a single banana out will make it ripen faster, but you may actually be slowing the process down. Bananas contain ethylene, which allows them to ripen. The more bananas there are, the more ethylene is released, and the quicker your bananas ripen! Bananas in a bundle usually take about 48 hours to become ripe.
2. Bake your banana until it’s ripe!
If you need your banana in a hurry to make some banana bread, have no fear. You simply lay them on a baking sheet, toss them in the oven, and bake on high at 300 degrees. This method usually takes about 30 minutes depending on your oven. You will know they’re ready when they get dark brown on the outside.
3. Microwave them
If you don’t have time to waste and you want your banana ripened as quickly as possible, you can toss it in the microwave. It should only take about 30 seconds for your banana to ripen!
4. Toss one in a brown paper bag
Placing your banana in a paper bag allows the ethylene to be trapped in the bag causing the banana to ripen. The more bananas you put in the paper bag, the better. This step usually takes about 12- 24 hours to ripen your banana.
5. Store your bananas in a warm place
Warm places allow the ripening process to go faster than if they were in a cool spot. Oh, science!
