How To Break Up Home Projects, So They Take Up Your Entire Quarantine Time

With the nation’s pandemic taking hold of everyone’s jobs, social life, and quality time away from family and friends I would say it is about time to start scheduling for projects. It is a great time to start making plans for the home improvement and gardening projects that you have been putting off on or never had time before because of work, your social life, or you just didn’t want to do them. Well, with all the free time you have on your hands, there is no better time to start those home projects than now. However, since the pandemic has us in lockdown mode for who knows how long, it would be a good idea to break up that home projects’ list of yours. I mean, you would not want to finish all your home projects and still be quarantined with nothing to do. Here are some tips to help you better break up and divide your list of home projects, so that they better take up your entire quarantine time.

1. Separate List By Rooms

The first thing to do, to divide your home projects’ list, is to separate each project according to its room. For example, sanding down the kitchen cabinets would be categorized under the kitchen, installing a new tool workbench in the garage under the garage, painting the bedroom a new color under the bedroom, installing tile would be under hallways, if it is indeed in the hallway, and installing backsplash behind the bathroom sink under the bathroom. Better to be safe, and divide the tasks by room, then to be sorry.

2. Break Down By Estimated Time

After dividing your list of home projects by room, go through the list and split each task up according to their estimated time. You would not want to start a home project, like painting the scenic mural in your bedroom, and later come to realize that it would not be done within a day’s job. Instead, it will take two or three days.

3. Consider The Weather

Before deciding what home project to begin, make sure you take into consideration the day’s weather. For example, say you want to start on the stand-up shelf planter or flower garden that your wife asked you to start laying out for her. Take my advice and plan the days of your projects according to the weather. It will save you from disappointment and annoyance.

4. Do Not Overdo It

The worst thing you can do, while working on a home project, is overdoing it. Do Not Overdo It! Not only will this lead you into being frustrated, exhausted, irritable, even in pain. If you do complete a home project earlier than you thought, do not start another one. I repeat. Do Not Start A New Project! Instead, use the time you have and take a break. Taking breaks is necessary for maintaining your health and durability. Take care of yourself.

5. Make Sure You Have The Proper Materials

Now, when it comes to projects, we have all forgotten some of the essential tools and materials. If not all of them. When you start your home project(s), make sure you have ALL the essential tools and materials needed to complete it. You do not want to be mid-way painting a wall or hammering a nail and not have enough paint or wood to finish the project. That will set you back sometime, if not annoy you. I speak from both experience and watching my Dad go through this. It is not fun, and it is not something you want to occur, especially when everything else is going to plan. Just be sure to double, even triple check before you start your home project.

6. Finish A Project Before Moving On To Another One

Do not, I repeat, do not leave a home project unfinished and move on to starting another one. That is the worst thing you could do, in terms of completing the task, and productivity. Not to mention, you will undoubtedly have to come back to it and finish it at some point.

Some of the men in my family are notorious for doing this. They will start a home project, renovate a bathroom for example, and they will leave the bathroom floor with half of it covered in tiles while the other half is left bare, and they will forget to paint one wall of the four-walled bathroom. Luckily, it is always the wall where the door is. So not many people notice it, but still.

7. Be Proud

I know this has nothing to do with the title, but I feel it needs to be mentioned. When you finish a home project, make sure you are proud of it. Take a picture of it. Send it to your family and friends. Let them see your hard work and what you have been doing with your time. Be proud of your home project. Whether it was a big or small task to finish, you finally did it. Now, onto the next one. Do a before and after shot, if you think about it too.

8. Remember Your Family

Lastly, when dividing up your home projects, make sure to spare yourself some time and spend it with your family. Though they may be home or away, whatever the case may be, secure some time, for them. Family is important. Now more than ever. No one can get through this pandemic and quarantine situation without family and friends being there for them and supporting them. Whether they are away, quarantined somewhere else, or stuck inside the house with you all day. Make sure to spend some quality time with your family.
