We spend a ton of time in our beds. In fact, we spend about a third of our lives in bed. In college, however, our Twin XLs are more than just beds. They’re our couch, they’re our desk, and they’re pretty much the only spot we have to offer our friends to sit.

So, how often should you wash your sheets in college? About once a week. I know, that seems like a lot. (And you’re probably sick of getting quarters for your laundry machine.) But if you want to keep things as clean as possible, you should be washing them once every week.

Of course, check the label on your sheets first, but cotton sheets are pretty much safe on any type of cycle. White and lighter colored sheets are best on cold cycles, and darker or black sheets are better on warmer cycles. If you’re sick, definitely wash on hot or warm.

How should you dry your sheets?

If you wash your sheets on too high of a temperature, your sheets could shrink. Try drying them on a low tumble setting and check them a few times throughout so they don’t get tangled. Or, if you can managing hanging them, let them air dry!
